Wine rated 14/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

60% Jacquère blended with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir: this lively, full-bodied, and approachable crémant boasts lovely creamy bubbles. The best in its class.

About the estate:

Jean-François Quénard took over from his father in 1987, and the original five hectares have been expanded through lease agreements to reach 17.5 hectares today, ten of which have been farmed organically for the past six years (which should soon lead to certification for the reds). The whites are crisp, mineral-driven, pure, and delightfully consistent. They boast ideal ripeness, without excess, and great finesse. The reds are full-bodied and generous; they should be decanted or given time to age. The rest of the range is of the same caliber, always offering good texture and depth on the palate. The quality is exemplary and continues to improve. The newly introduced crémant stands out in its category. A sure bet!

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

As rich and distinctive as ever, with a distinct character from the Jacquère (60% of the blend) that gives it its light, airy quality, this crémant is consistently among our favorites.

About the estate:

There are many Quenards and Quénards in the village of Chignin, but Jean-François stands out. We commend the quality of his work and the consistency of his extensive range, which is refined year by year with subtle touches and serves as a benchmark in Savoy’s ever-evolving wine landscape. The reds have improved significantly and are now of a very high standard. Richly endowed and vinified using only indigenous yeasts, the whites maintain a perfect balance on the palate. Looking toward the future, Jean-François Quénard has restructured his vineyard, which is currently undergoing certification for organic farming. The estate has been officially handed over to his daughter Anne-Sophie, who studied in Beaune and Changins. Her first name now appears on the cellar and on the labels.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 16/20

About the wine:

[...] A dry, elegant crémant. It whets the appetite, but those accustomed to sparkling wines with a rounded finish may find it slightly austere. That’s not the case for me. Tight, bright, and pure. Surprisingly long on the finish, too.

Beautiful fine bubbles. Floral aroma. The palate is a bit short.
