Vin de liqueur

Liqueur wine is made from red or white grape varieties whose fermentation is halted by the addition of alcohol in order to preserve their residual sugars.

Liqueur wines are so-called fortified wines of the mistelle or liqueur wine type, where fortification is carried out before fermentation (or at the very beginning) using brandy. Examples include, in addition to Pineau des Charentes, Floc de Gascogne, and Macvin du Jura, which are made with a brandy of the same origin as the grape must.
