“A fine example of the appellation!”

“No oak to highlight a promising vintage, made from Merlot (60%) and Malbec. A deep purple color, a nose leaning toward dark fruit, a full-bodied and rich palate, with an intense and lively finish: the profile of a wine with good aging potential.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2020)

Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

This estate has long been the family stronghold of the de Conti family. Luc de Conti purchased the estate in 1981. His cousin Francis and his son Guillaume joined him, while his daughter Margaux chose another estate (Barouillet) and his son Gilles pursued a career in brewing. Fifty hectares are farmed organically, and a small portion (12 hectares) is farmed biodynamically.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

No oak was used to highlight this promising vintage, made from Merlot (60%) and Malbec. It boasts a deep purple color, a nose leaning toward dark fruit, a full-bodied and rich palate, and an intense, lively finish: the profile of a wine with good aging potential.

About the estate:

Savagnin, a grape variety native to the Jura region, is making its debut in the Bergerac region! A craft brewery and a distillery further diversify the estate’s offerings. With Gilles and Margaux de Conti, the new generation—full of ideas—took over this family estate in 2022. While creating original vintages, they continue to produce the appellation wines that have made Château Tour des Gendres famous, founded in 1981 by their father Luc, the son of farmer-winemakers and grandson of Italian immigrants who settled in the region in 1925. The estate, now 30 hectares in size, committed to organic farming in 1996, prior to receiving certification in 2009.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

Simple and authentic, just fruit and nothing else: the purity of Conti’s style in a juicy vintage.

About the estate:

The 52-hectare estate has recently been divided between the two branches of the family. Luc de Conti, who has been delighting us with his Bergerac wines for twenty-five years, has parted ways with his cousin and, together with his children, Margaux and Gilles, is building a new future for the estate. The vineyard, entirely organic, produces full-bodied whites and reds that adhere to the classic standards of the Bergerac region. Beer, whiskey, and truffles will also now be part of the lineup for the Conti label.

This was my first time trying a Bergerac, and I was blown away by the quality of the winemaking. We paired it with duck breast with apricots—it was simply delicious.
