“The color is clean, a deep, intense red. The nose, as powerful as it is charming, blends fruity notes with hints of violet and spice—so characteristic of Négrette—combined here with Syrah. On the palate, it is both rich and refined, full-bodied yet lively, infused with the fruitiness of cherries and wild strawberries that lingers delightfully through the finish, supported by perfectly integrated oak (aged in 400-liter barrels and large casks) and incredibly silky tannins. Irresistible. ” (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable production, though a bit more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Le Roc ranks among Fronton’s top producers. The range is extensive, and the top-tier wines demonstrate with every vintage that Fronton wines can possess depth and genuine aging potential. This is proven with every new tasting of a wine from the estate that is over 10 years old—wines that are always surprisingly youthful.

About the estate:
In the Ribes family, everyone has their place. Jean-Luc, who plays the blues in his spare time, took over the family estate in 1981 and was joined over the years by his brother Frédéric and his wife, Cathy, then by Pierre, and now by Anne and Grégoire, representing the latest generation. The estate now spans 35 hectares between Ch. le Roc (certified organic) and Ch. Flotis (in the process of converting to organic), which was taken over in 2018 by Fabienne and Raphaël Agosti but is still vinified by the Ribes family.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100
Rated Estate (2026 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
Though slightly less expressive today, Don Quichotte follows in the same tradition, with a slightly more velvety body and tannins that are a bit more supple and complex.
About the estate:
For many years, the Ribes family has been producing some of the most distinctive and memorable wines in the Fronton appellation. With the arrival of the younger generation—Grégoire and Anne—the vineyards of Château Flotis, a neighboring estate that the family had already been managing, were incorporated into Le Roc. With admirable consistency, the Négrette variety reveals its most original characteristics here, while also demonstrating its ability to evolve gracefully—particularly in the iconic Don Quichotte cuvée, where Syrah also plays a significant role. But the Haut du Bois, a new cuvée made exclusively from Négrette, has what it takes to steal the show... The Bouysselet, grafted and aged in barrels, asserts its character and ambition. Le Roc’s wines are a delight! Thanks to them, one feels so far removed from hollow elitism and pretensions of fleeting sophistication... The latest vintages are particularly compelling, so yes, such depth, authenticity, and pleasure deserve a second star!

An exciting discovery: this rich and sensual wine delivers, with wonderful verve, a full-bodied, shimmering flavor that evokes crisp little red berries intertwined with sweet spices, carried by a pleasant freshness and set against a lovely, well-integrated oakiness. The incredibly fine and velvety tannins carry the vibrant finish well into the aftertaste. Already a great pleasure paired with a Basque-style chicken stir-fry with Bayonne ham. Rating = 4.2.

Review by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on July 13, 2025
Deep cherry-red color with a purple core. Nose: floral, violets, ripe dark fruit, blackberry, cherry, and plum. Forest-like notes, along with wild strawberries and warm jam. Nicely concentrated and layered. On the palate, ripe red and dark fruit, plenty of juice and fruit, followed by fairly firm, fine-grained tannins. Medium body and a similarly medium finish, with fine acidity and lovely freshness. Also herbal notes, including bay leaf. The wine can age for another 2 to 3 years. But right now, paired with a grilled sausage and homemade fries: a real treat! Score: 16/20
