“A beautiful tribute to the Négrette grape, showcased here in a style that is both generous and refined. The nose, wide open, exudes intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, licorice, and sweet spices, along with that violet scent so characteristic of the variety. The palate captivates with its richness and balance: juiciness, body, a luscious, round, and velvety texture, a hint of sweetness, and perfectly balanced freshness. The violet note accompanies the tasting all the way to the long, expressive finish. A cuvée with character that brilliantly showcases the grape variety’s identity.” (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Le Roc is among the top producers of Fronton. The range is extensive, and the top-tier wines demonstrate with every vintage that Fronton can possess depth and genuine aging potential. This is proven with every new tasting of a wine from the estate that is over 10 years old, yet still surprisingly youthful.

About the estate:
In the Ribes family, there’s a place for everyone. Jean-Luc, who plays the blues in his spare time, took over the family estate in 1981 and was joined over the years by his brother Frédéric and his wife, Cathy, then by Pierre, and now by Anne and Grégoire, representing the latest generation. The estate now spans 35 hectares between Ch. le Roc (certified organic) and Ch. Flotis (in conversion to organic), which was taken over in 2018 by Fabienne and Raphaël Agosti but is still vinified by the Ribes family.

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
The ambitious Hauts du Bois cuvée boasts magnificent aromatic intensity (mentholated licorice, smoked tea, floral notes of violet, iris, and peony...): explosive, with flavor taking center stage, while the structure provides length and fullness.
About the estate:
For many years, the Ribes family has been producing some of the most distinctive and memorable wines in the Fronton appellation. With the arrival of the younger generation—Grégoire and Anne—the vineyards of Château Flotis, a neighboring estate that the family had already been managing, were incorporated into Le Roc. With a consistency that commands admiration, the Négrette here displays its most original characteristics, also demonstrating its ability to evolve gracefully, particularly in the iconic Don Quichotte cuvée, where Syrah also plays a role. But the Haut du Bois, a new cuvée made from 100% Négrette, has the potential to steal the show... The grafted Bouysselet, vinified in barrels, asserts its character and ambition. Les Roc wines do you good! Thanks to them, you feel so far removed from hollow elitism and pretensions to fleeting sophistication... The latest vintages are particularly compelling, so yes, such depth, authenticity, and pleasure deserve a second star!

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on April 8, 2026
Discover this superb Négrette, softened by extended aging in oak and delivering, with vigor and liveliness, delicious and intense aromas embedded in a pronounced, ripe tannic structure. The dense texture, of extreme finesse and velvety smoothness, leads to a remarkably sustained, chalky finish. A distinguished Fronton of rare charm, perfect for pairing with venison, such as a Loc Lac-style marinated venison fillet cooked à la plancha. Score = 4.2.
