About the wine:
Alheit Vineyards’ Cartology Bush Vines 2024 is a blend of Chenin Blanc and 8% Sémillon. The Chenin comes from nine plots spread across the Cape region, ranging in age from 40 to 60 years, while the Sémillon comes from vines approaching 90 years of age. Conceived as an exploration of cartography and terroir, Cartology brings together diverse soils and climates to offer a unique expression of the Western Cape. The 2024 vintage offers a clean palate, salinity, and freshness, along with rich texture and nuanced depth. Complex yet balanced, it embodies what Alheit simply describes as a Western Cape white wine. By bringing together terroirs shaped by ocean winds, ancient soils, and old vines, this wine reflects a distinct South African identity, rooted in both heritage and precision. It is an exciting wine, produced in large quantities (22,510 bottles, plus 240 magnums) at an affordable price. 2026–2038

About the wine:
Cartology 2024 is made from grapes harvested early in the morning, naturally fermented, and aged for 12 months on fine lees. It offers lively aromas of orange and kumquat, with well-defined notes of white linen in the background—aromas that need time to fully unfold. The palate is well-balanced, with a slightly waxy attack, quite spicy with a hint of white pepper, leading to a crisp and refreshing finish that lingers beautifully on the palate. One of Cape Town’s iconic wines continues to impress, but I recommend decanting it for an hour or two. 2026–2040
