Wittmann Winery
Wittmann Winery is located southwest of Frankfurt, in the town of Westhofen, in the southern part of the Rhine-Hesse region. The Wittmann family and their ancestors have lived in this region for several centuries; documents trace the family's winegrowing history back to 1663.

In 1990, Weingut Wittmann converted its vineyard to organic farming and since 2004, it has also been cultivated biodynamically. The estate has vineyards in four different crus: Aulerde (the warmest), Kierchspiel (a plot with a high proportion of limestone that opens onto the Rhine in the shape of an amphitheater), Brunnenhauschen (the highest plot), and Morstein (a plot recognized since 1282). It is on these plots that the estate's best Rieslings are planted. All of the Weingut Wittmann vineyards are located on gently sloping hillsides.

With manual harvesting, gentle pressing, fermentation using indigenous yeasts, and fermentation and aging in used barrels, the Wittmann family is part of a "modernist" movement, choosing to produce wines with higher alcohol content but less residual sugar.
