Wittmann Winery
Wittmann Winery is located southwest of Frankfurt, in the town of Westhofen, in the southern part of the Rheinhessen region. The Wittmann family and its ancestors have lived in this region for several centuries; historical records trace the family’s winemaking history back to 1663.

In 1990, Weingut Wittmann converted its vineyards to organic farming, and since 2004, they have also been cultivated using biodynamic methods. The estate owns vineyards in four different crus: Aulerde (the warmest), Kierchspiel (a plot with a high proportion of limestone that opens onto the Rhine in an amphitheater-like formation), Brunnenhauschen (the highest plot), and Morstein (a plot recognized since 1282). It is on these plots that the estate’s finest Rieslings are planted. The entire vineyard of Weingut Wittmann is situated on gently sloping hillsides.

Hand-harvested grapes, gentle pressing, fermentation with native yeasts, and fermentation and aging in used oak barrels—the Wittmann family is part of a so-called "modernist" movement, as they choose to produce wines with higher alcohol content but lower residual sugar levels.
