Rated estate (2023 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

An iconic Bergholtz estate for two generations now. The 18 hectares cultivated using biodynamic methods are the result of the partnership between Jean Dirler and Ludivine Cadé. Within the lineup, the fine terroirs of Saering, Kitterlé, Kessler, and especially Spiegel offer great aging potential, allowing the slight residual sugars to integrate fully.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 96/100

Rated estate (2025 guide): 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience.)

About the wine:

A remarkable trilogy of 2023 Grand Cru Rieslings, already perfectly expressive: [...] Spiegel, more vibrant and immediately refined

About the estate:

Jean Dirler and his wife Ludivine, sensitive and seasoned winemakers, skillfully steer this estate founded in 1871, which has been passed down from father to son for five generations and has been cultivated biodynamically since 1998. Regardless of the grape variety, the precision of the wines, their body, and their ripeness have never been more refined: an impressive range of great dry white wines culminates in the magnificent expressions of the Spiegel, Saering, Kessler, and Kitterlé grands crus—which are an absolute must-try—and which are now named after the four elements (fire, air, earth, water). This estate offers a remarkable welcome, and many wines are available in older vintages. The exceptional quality of the entire range in the most recent vintages has earned it its third star this year.

About the wine:

The 2023 Riesling Spiegel Grand Cru was harvested from a plot called Stein, on sandstone soil with marl and quartz pebbles. This vintage was made exclusively from 45-year-old vines grown on this plot. The fragrant nose features aromas of crisp red apple and crushed citrus leaves. The palate is lively and very light. It is less concentrated than usual, but imbued with immense charm and great purity. The finish is dry and very precise. (Very dry)
