"More vigorous and full-bodied, a lively wine with great persistence." (RVF)

The Gewurztraminer Spiegel Grand Cru 2023 was made exclusively from non-botrytized fruit. A hint of navel orange peel is accompanied by a note of honeysuckle, but the overall impression remains supple. The palate is reminiscent of juicy, ripe mirabelle plums with a lovely hint of orange peel. This is a rich but restrained Gewurztraminer, with plenty of liveliness and balance." (Vinous 2025)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Bergholtz's iconic estate for two generations now. The 18 hectares of biodynamic vineyards are the result of the union between Jean Dirler and Ludivine Cadé. Within the range, the beautiful terroirs of Saering, Kitterlé, Kessler, and especially Spiegel have great aging potential, allowing the slight residual sugars to mellow.

Wine rating (2026 guide) 96/100 Favorite

Rated estate (2025 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About wine:

Gewurztraminers express the precision of grand crus, [...] Spiegel is more vigorous and full-bodied, a lively wine with great persistence.

About the estate:

Sensitive and experienced winemakers, Jean Dirler and his wife Ludivine are at the helm of this estate founded in 1871, passed down from father to son for five generations and biodynamic since 1998. Regardless of the grape variety, the wines have never been so well-balanced, dense and mature: an impressive range of great dry white wines culminates in the magnificent expressions of the Spiegel, Saering, Kessler and Kitterlé grands crus, which are a must-try and are now named after the four elements (fire, air, earth and water). This estate offers a remarkable welcome and many wines are available in older vintages. The exceptional quality of the entire range in recent vintages has earned it a third star this year.
