"Highly fragrant and seductive, this Pinot Noir is concentrated and elegant, with great focus and clarity. Aromas of tart cherry, violet, and subtle spices cascade across the palate. Still very young, it already shines with its long, clean finish. (James Suckling 2022) Cuve 7 owes its name to the number of the vat in which the Pinot Noir Reserve was first produced. It is only produced in the best vintages.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2022 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
The Ribeauvillé estate is slowly evolving to keep pace with the times. After shifting its focus to grand cru wines, Trimbach is now converting to organic farming (certification expected in 2023). The process will involve its grape and wine suppliers. Riesling reigns supreme here (55% of production). The terroirs are ideal: marl-limestone (Geisberg, Mandelberg, Clos-Saint-Hune au Rosacker) or granite (Schlossberg, Brand). The Frédéric-Émile cuvée blends the Osterberg and Geisberg grands crus. The 2017 and 2019 vintages will go down in history.

About wine:
The 2020 Pinot Noir Reserve "Cuve 7" comes from vines that are around 40 years old, located in Rotenberg (on red clay and limestone) and Rodern (granite). Macerated for 10 to 12 days and aged in oak barrels until April of the following year, the 2020 vintage offers a deep, intense and generous bouquet, yet refined and elegant, of ripe black berries and cherries intertwined with delicate aromas of toast and salt. Full-bodied, quite rich and powerful, this Pinot Noir fills the mouth, is generously fleshy and intense, but also silky, lush, elegant and structured, with spicy, peppery tannins and textured Rhône characteristics, even hints of licorice on the finish. An interesting and delicious Pinot with excellent aging potential, this Pinot needs a few years in the bottle to refine and gain finesse, however. 14% alcohol declared. Diamond cap. Tasted at the estate in April and November 2024.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the estate:
A must-visit estate that stands proudly in the beautiful city of musicians, Trimbach delights wine lovers with its legendary Frédéric-Émile and Clos Sainte-Hune vintages. Depending on the vintage, Pierre Trimbach vinifies Riesling in a vertical style, always dry. His brother Jean manages sales worldwide. They are now supported by the new generation, Anne and Frédérique (Pierre's daughters) and Pauline and Julien (Jean's children). The family vinifies nearly 60 hectares of their own vineyards and around 100 hectares of purchased grapes. Certain grands crus have been claimed since 2009 and are allocated directly in small quantities by Jean Trimbach to the world's finest restaurants. The house undeniably contributes to the promotion of Alsace wines with internationally renowned vintages, while producing entry-level wines of consistent quality. The range of Pinot Noirs still has room for improvement.

About wine:
Bright crimson. This is definitely a Pinot Noir, but a little rough around the edges. Correct and full on the palate, but a little solid rather than ethereal. Bone-dry finish, still a little bitter and astringent. (JR)

About wine:
100% destemming for this Pinot Noir. Maceration for 10 to 15 days, followed by aging in barrels and stainless steel vats. The bouquet is characterized by its fruity intensity and precision. It is marked by notes of cherry and a hint of licorice. The attack announces a wine of good density. It is harmonious and supported by tannins which, together with the tension of the acidic structure, form strength and hold. A wine of character with a persistent finish. A little aging in the cellar is required! 2026-2040 93/100
