"Rhodanian textured characteristics" (Parker) "

"Highly perfumed and seductive, this pinot noir is concentrated and elegant, with great focus and clarity. Aromas of sour cherry, violet and subtle spices cascade onto the palate. Still very young, it already shines with a long, clean finish." (James Suckling 2022)) Cuve 7 takes its name from the number of the vat in which Pinot Noir Réserve was first produced. It is only produced in the best vintages.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

The Ribeauvillé winery is slowly evolving to keep up with the times. After having taken the turn towards grand cru wines, Trimbach is in the process of converting to organic production (certification planned for 2023). The process will require the involvement of grape and wine suppliers. Here, Riesling is king (55% of volumes). The terroirs are ideal: marl-limestone (Geisberg, Mandelberg, Clos-saint-Hune au Rosacker) or granite (Schlossberg, Brand). The cuvée frédéric-émile blends the grand crus Osterberg and Geisberg. The 2017 and 2019 vintages will make history.

Wine rated ( 2025 guide) 92/100 (Great wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Pinot Noir Réserve 2020 "Cuve 7" comes from 40-year-old vines in the Rotenberg (red clay and limestone) and Rodern (granite) regions. Macerated for 10 to 12 days and aged in tuns until April of the following year, the 2020 offers a deep, intense and generous, yet refined and elegant bouquet of ripe berries and black cherries intermixed with delicate aromas of toast and salt. Full-bodied, quite rich and powerful, this Pinot Noir fills the mouth, is generously fleshy and intense, but also silky, lush, elegant and structured, with spicy, peppery tannins and textured Rhône characteristics, even licorice aromas on the finish. An interesting, gourmet Pinot with excellent ageing potential, this Pinot needs a few years in bottle to refine and gain in finesse, however. 14% alcohol declared. Tasted at the estate in April and November 2024.

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the domain :

Trimbach, a landmark winery that stands proudly in the beautiful city of the minstrels, delights wine-lovers with its legendary Frédéric-Émile and Clos Sainte-Hune cuvées. From vintage to vintage, Pierre Trimbach vinifies Riesling in a vertical, dry style. His brother Jean manages worldwide sales. They are now supported by the new generation, Anne and Frédérique (Pierre's daughters) and Pauline and Julien (Jean's children). The family vinifies close to 60 hectares of property and around 100 hectares of purchased grapes. Since 2009, some of the grand crus have been claimed by Jean Trimbach and directly allocated in small quantities to the world's finest tables. Jean Trimbach is making an undeniable contribution to the development of Alsace wines, with emblematic cuvées at international level, while producing entry-level wines of consistent quality. The Pinot Noir range still has room for improvement.

Wine rated (4 guide) 16/20

About the wine:

Bright crimson. This is indeed a Pinot Noir, but a little raw. Correct and full on the palate, but a little solid rather than ethereal. Finishes bone-dry and still a little bitter and astringent. (JR)

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

100% destemming for this Pinot Noir. Maceration for 10-15 days, followed by maturation in barrels and stainless steel vats. The bouquet is characterized by fruity intensity and precision. It is marked by notes of cherry and a hint of licorice. The attack announces a wine of good density. It is harmonious and sustained by tannins which, with the tension of the acid structure, form strength and staying power. A wine of character with a persistent finish. A little cellar ageing is essential! 2026-2040 93/100
