"A vintage that is finally a century old!"

"The greatest Clos Ste. Hune of all time? The beauty and elegance of this very young dry Riesling from Alsace are literally breathtaking. A very subtle character of white peach, great concentration, and such finesse in the extremely long and precise finish. However, you will need to be patient, as this wine is so well-structured that it will take many years to reach its peak. " (James Suckling 2020) • Delivery in wooden cases is available for orders of 3 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and shipping method selected).

Wine rated 99/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)

About wine:

A very mineral nose, hinting at a stony, shell limestone terroir, the Muschelkalk of Hunawihr. On the palate, there is already a strong smoky expression of the terroir, with a magnificent acidity gradually developing. This is undoubtedly a great vintage from Clos Sainte-Hune, with a predictable slow aging process. We will taste it again in a few years to see if it is perfect, or just almost perfect.

About the estate:

The Ribeauvillé estate is slowly evolving to keep pace with the times. After shifting its focus to grand cru wines, Trimbach is now converting to organic farming (certification expected in 2023). The process will involve its grape and wine suppliers. Riesling reigns supreme here (55% of production). The terroirs are ideal: marl-limestone (Geisberg, Mandelberg, Clos-Saint-Hune au Rosacker) or granite (Schlossberg, Brand). The Frédéric-Émile cuvée blends the Osterberg and Geisberg grands crus. The 2017 and 2019 vintages will go down in history.

About wine:

The 2019 Riesling Clos Ste Hune 100th Anniversary is very clear, fresh, and refreshing on the nose, with a precise and refined, very detailed aroma that clearly reflects the terroir, expressed through salty lemon aromas. Generous but refined on the palate, this is a more classic Riesling compared to the 2018, so a little more austere, less textured but more precise and incredibly saline. The tannins are still a little sharp but already play with the saline acidity, and I can assure you that this is a great classic, balanced Riesling that will improve with age. Personally, I love this style (or this vintage) because it shows the finesse and purity of the vineyard rather than its power and richness at this stage. Keep for at least 10 years or, if you can, 20 years. Tasted at the estate in April 2024 and on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Clos Ste Hune in early November, with the same result, but another note:

Wine rated (2026 guide) 99/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

The monumental Clos Sainte-Hune combines concentration and brilliance: slender, incredibly taut, with high extract and a rich aromatic palette, it will still be in great shape in half a century.

About the estate:

A must-visit estate that stands proudly in the beautiful city of musicians, Trimbach delights wine lovers with its legendary Frédéric-Émile and Clos Sainte-Hune vintages. Depending on the vintage, Pierre Trimbach vinifies Riesling in a vertical style, always dry. His brother Jean manages sales worldwide. They are now supported by the new generation, Anne and Frédérique (Pierre's daughters) and Pauline and Julien (Jean's children). The family vinifies nearly 60 hectares of their own vineyards and around 100 hectares of purchased grapes. Certain grands crus have been claimed since 2009 and are allocated directly in small quantities by Jean Trimbach to the world's finest restaurants. The house undeniably contributes to the promotion of Alsace wines with internationally renowned vintages, while producing entry-level wines of consistent quality. The range of Pinot Noirs still has room for improvement.
