Château des Bachelards

The grape variety is indigenous and rare. We refer to them as “Gamays” in the plural because there are many different types, and ampelographic research is currently underway at the château. With dual certification as organic (FR-BIO-15) and biodynamic (Demeter), the wines follow in this tradition. Château des Bachelards is the only one in the appellation and will remain the pioneer of biodynamics in Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent, and Saint-Amour. The soils have been free of chemicals for over 12 years, and this changes the style of the wines. Having become accustomed to wines made with added yeast on chemically treated soils, few professionals can identify the appellations of Château des Bachelards’ wines in a blind tasting. They are characterized by a combination of Burgundy’s elegance and the richness of the Rhône Valley. The soils are alive, and so are the wines. The estate does not practice carbonic maceration, semi-carbonic maceration, or thermovinification. It does not use any artificial yeast. The wines have their own identity and resemble only themselves; they are of the land.
