success story

"Irresistible, floral, fruity, and classic!"

"The Fleurie Origines 2023 reveals inviting aromas of crushed petals, candied plums, cherries, and sweet earth, enhanced by a touch of cocoa powder. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, with moderate acidity, it offers refreshing clarity of fruit and juicy, vibrant flavors. It shows beautiful integration of numerous talc-like tannins that add structure while delicately clinging to the cheeks." (Wine Advocate 2025)

About the estate:

Formerly a merchant for Trenel, Grégoire Hoppenot took over Jean-Paul Champagnon's 10-hectare estate in 2018 to strike out on his own. The young vineyards are certified organic, with the rest currently undergoing conversion.

About wine:

The Fleurie Origines 2023 reveals inviting aromas of crushed petals, candied plums, cherries, and sweet earth, enhanced with a touch of cocoa powder. Medium-bodied to full-bodied with moderate acidity, it offers refreshing clarity of fruit and juicy, vibrant flavors. It features beautiful integration of numerous talc-like tannins that add structure while delicately adhering to the cheeks. Fluid and accessible, this wine is effortless to drink, even if the finish is slightly shorter than desired.

About the estate:

I discovered the wines from this new estate during my tastings in Villefranche organized by Inter Beaujolais, and Hoppenot's first vintages impressed me enough to deserve a special mention. If he can maintain this level of quality, importers should be knocking at his door.

About wine:

The floral Origines is simple and crisp, punctuated with toasted notes.

About the estate:

Grégoire Hoppenot is one to watch closely. He is one of those winemakers who, before setting up in 2018, gained valuable experience at estates such as Chermette, Maison Trénel, and the Bel-Air winemakers' cellar. He has managed to build up a portfolio of high-quality plots in some of the best locations in the appellation. Gentle vinification of whole bunches is followed by aging in a combination of vats and previously used wood, allowing the nuances to be reflected to the fullest while maintaining a digestible and refined character. The 2018 vintage proved promising, and the 2019 vintage is particularly successful. We look forward to discovering the next vintages.
