"Les Garants maintains its status as the best locality in the region, thanks to its depth and length." (RVF)

"The Fleurie Les Garants 2023 offers an inviting nose of peonies, lavender, blueberries, plums, and spices, incorporating more savory notes on the palate with additional hints of rosemary and sweet earth. The wine is rich in juicy fruit flavors throughout its progression, enhanced by a delicate trace of slate-like salinity and finely integrated, spaced-out chalky tannins. These elements add a touch of intrigue, elevating the wine from a delicious, easy-to-drink, indulgent experience to one of depth that invites further tasting. It is slightly tense when first opened, but after eight hours, the wine blossoms. It is also worth noting that it remained just as pure and succulent 72 hours later." (Wine Advocate 2025)

About the estate:

Formerly a merchant for Trenel, Grégoire Hoppenot took over Jean-Paul Champagnon's 10-hectare estate in 2018 to strike out on his own. The young vineyards are certified organic, with the rest currently undergoing conversion.

About the estate:

I discovered the wines from this new estate during my tastings in Villefranche organized by Inter Beaujolais, and Hoppenot's first vintages impressed me enough to deserve a special mention. If he can maintain this level of quality, importers should be knocking at his door.

About wine:

Les Garants maintains its status as the best locality in the region, thanks to its depth and length.

About the estate:

Grégoire Hoppenot is one to watch closely. He is one of those winemakers who, before setting up in 2018, gained valuable experience at estates such as Chermette, Maison Trénel, and the Bel-Air winemakers' cellar. He has managed to build up a portfolio of high-quality plots in some of the best locations in the appellation. Gentle vinification of whole bunches is followed by aging in a combination of vats and previously used wood, allowing the nuances to be reflected to the fullest while maintaining a digestible and refined character. The 2018 vintage proved promising, and the 2019 vintage is particularly successful. We look forward to discovering the next vintages.
