success story

“Irresistible, floral, fruity, and classic!”

"The 2023 Fleurie Origines reveals inviting aromas of crushed petals, candied plums, cherries, and soft earth, enhanced by a hint of cocoa powder. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, with moderate acidity, it offers refreshing fruit clarity and juicy, vibrant flavors. It features a beautiful integration of numerous powdery tannins that add structure while clinging delicately to the cheeks.” (Wine Advocate 2025)

About the estate:

A former wine merchant for the Trenel company, Grégoire Hoppenot took over Jean-Paul Champagnon’s 10-hectare estate in 2018 to strike out on his own. The plots of young vines are certified organic; the rest are in the process of conversion.

About wine:

The 2023 Fleurie Origines reveals inviting aromas of crushed petals, candied plums, cherries, and soft earth, enhanced by a hint of cocoa powder. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, with moderate acidity, it offers refreshing fruit clarity and juicy, vibrant flavors. It features a beautiful integration of numerous powdery tannins that add structure while clinging delicately to the cheeks. Smooth and approachable, this wine drinks effortlessly, even if the finish is slightly shorter than desired.

About the estate:

I discovered the wines from this new winery during the tastings in Villefranche organized by Inter Beaujolais, and Hoppenot’s first vintages impressed me enough to warrant a special mention. If he can maintain this level of quality, importers will be lining up at his door.

About wine:

The Origines Fleurie is simple and crisp, with hints of toast.

About the estate:

Grégoire Hoppenot is one to watch closely. He is one of those winemakers who, before setting up his own estate in 2018, gained valuable experience at estates such as Chermette, Maison Trénel, and the Bel-Air winemakers’ cooperative. He has successfully assembled a portfolio of top-tier vineyards among the appellation’s finest lieux-dits. Gentle whole-cluster vinification is followed by aging that combines tank and used oak, allowing the wine to best reflect its nuances while maintaining a smooth, refined character. The 2018s proved promising, and the 2019s are particularly successful. We look forward to discovering the next vintages.
