Notes: RVF 17.5/20, Bettane & Desseauve 17.5/20
"As concentrated and rich as ever, with intense fruitiness, fresh black fruit pulp, a velvety finish and a captivating aftertaste, this is a truly great Py in an exceptional vintage. It still has a fruity taste, but should soon close up. (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France 2013)

Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
The Morgon appellation is fortunate to have so many leading estates within its ranks. Jean and Agnès Foillard offer a particularly fruity and fresh expression. The Fleurie and the 3.14 cuvée are always released a little later than the Morgons. While the work in the vineyards and in the cellar is admirable in its approach, one cannot help but mention the slight animal notes that some cuvées suffer from, sometimes losing all the capital of their origin. This is frustrating because one can clearly sense the very high quality in the structure of the wines produced.

About the estate:
Jean Foillard is one of the leading names in the Beaujolais region. A series of misfortunes led to his removal from the Guide Vert, so it was only natural to reinstate him. Known for his "natural" style, Jean cut his teeth at the family estate in 1981. With a steady hand, he has maintained a free style, but without deviation, resulting in very consistent and very deep wines. Organic viticulture, sulfur-free vinification, whole harvest and barrel aging are not the only keys to success, of course. Because to produce these "free" but precise wines, meticulous monitoring under the microscope is one of the fundamental parameters. Jean Foillard is gently passing the baton to his son, Alex. After traveling the world and taking over a few hectares of vines in his own name, Alex is gradually taking over the reins with the desire to continue his father's work, while infusing it with his own sensibility. There has been a noticeable improvement in the latest vintages tasted, which leads us to consider a second star.
