"Located next to Angélus and recommended by Hubert de Boüard, this is a Bordeaux worth discovering!"

Cheval Noir is made from grapes grown on hillsides with clay-limestone soil. The blend consists of 85% Merlot, which adds fruitiness and roundness; 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, which provides structure; and 5% Cabernet Franc, which lends aromatic finesse. A red Bordeaux perfect for any occasion!

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

The name refers to the powerful black horses used in the 19th century for the grape harvest, and it became a brand in 1895—the oldest in the Bordeaux region. In 1937, it was acquired by the venerable wine merchant Mähler-Besse, founded in 1892 and co-owner of Château Palmer in Margaux. The estate covers 4.5 hectares.
