"Easy to drink, well made, nothing out of place, really enjoyable! ~ Decanter"

Fresh and lively nose of red and black fruits, summer berries. Lively and fun, succulent, but in a really calm and controlled way, with mouthwatering acidity, but very well balanced by salty, just-right tannins. Easy to drink, well made, nothing out of place, it's thoroughly enjoyable and easy, with fresh fruit, firm tannins and a stony touch that adds freshness. Not elegant, but simple and well crafted. Slightly spicy on the finish. There is still a little strength beneath the acidity." (Decanter 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Immediately adjacent to Giscours and Siran in terms of vineyard location, this fifth growth classified in 1855 had belonged to MAIF since 1988, which sold it in early 2019 to the Breton group Samsic, headed by Christian Roulleau. The remarkable technical team remains in place around Philippe Roux and Laurent Fortin, setting an example in many areas. They have made significant efforts to renovate the premises with great respect for the environment and to modernize the technical buildings, complemented by a level of viticulture and winemaking that we would like to see more often. The latest vintages have produced well-rounded wines, praised by critics: a powerful and harmonious grand vin and two second wines, Aurore, similar in style to the first, and La Bastide, which is more supple.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

After its glory days in the 19th century, this wine fell into decline in the first half of the 20th century, before being revived by the Miailhe family from Siran, the Châtelier family from Champagne, and finally, in 1989, by MAIF, which entrusted its management to André Lurton in 1992. Lurton's daughter, Christine Lurton Bazin de Caix, ran the estate between 2005 and 2013. Laurent Fortin replaced her and in 2014, André Lurton sold his stake to MAIF. The vineyard covers 45 hectares in a single block.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

The estate has been firmly in the running for several vintages now. Laurent Fortin, director of the estate since 2014, has been multiplying initiatives and experiments and expanding the range. He has given new impetus to the estate, which can now be classified as a sure bet. Now in the hands of the Roulleau family, the estate should continue to progress, with very advanced thinking on vine cultivation.

About wine:

This fresh and fruity wine is produced by the same team as Château Dauzac in Margaux. It reveals aromas of red fruits and spices, light tannins, and acidity on the finish. Drink now or age until 2025. Suitable for vegans. - Roger Voss
