"A biodynamic vintage"

Made from 40-year-old vines grown on sandy clay soil and aged in casks, barrels, and amphorae, this Fronsac is truly wonderful. The nose exudes smoky, spicy, and stewed fruit notes with a soft, mineral profile. Its palate offers delicious strawberry and raspberry aromas. An intense fruitiness that then reveals a wine with just the right balance, fresh, precise, and elegant. Try it with a roast. We love it!

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

Christine and Jean-Yves Millaire use biodynamic methods to cultivate their vineyards in Canon-Fronsac (7 hectares), Fronsac (2.5 hectares), and Bordeaux. The Canon-Fronsac stands out for its tannic structure that enhances the fruit, which is harvested at just the right moment of ripeness without losing its freshness. It offers good value for money.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

A consistently high-quality vintage, established in the 1950s by Jean Garnier, leased between 1979 and 1998 until the arrival of his grandson Jean-Yves Millaire, who took over direct management. The vineyard (now covering 30 hectares) is farmed organically and biodynamically (certified in 2009 and 2012 respectively).

Wine rating (2023 guide) 92/100 (2019 vintage)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

With nearly 50 hectares of biodynamically cultivated vines today, Jean-Yves Millaire proves wrong those who still believe that small is necessarily better. The somewhat forced extractions of the early days ("it was the fashion") have been replaced by infusions. Millaire even manages to release a Beaujolais-style "primeur" in December: Loupiot, a pure fruit juice blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot without sulfur, perfect for the tréso... His aging methods are also breaking new ground: mainly large oak casks, a few amphorae and barrels to best suit the different soil profiles, which are capable of accommodating old, forgotten grape varieties: the winemaker is cultivating massal planting projects for new flavors. In the meantime, his value can be judged by his Canon-Fronsac and Fronsac wines, which have earned him a place in this guide.

The same goes for Château Canon Pécresse, which I find rather heavy on the palate.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 08/13/2023

Favorite for this racy 100% Merlot, beautifully constructed around fresh and crisp red berries (strawberry, redcurrant, raspberry). Finely structured, the palate is slender and perfectly juicy, gradually giving way to vibrant, delicate tannins that provide a smooth texture around lively fruit, ending with a long finish marked by a return of aromatic intensity and radiant liveliness, bringing freshness and dynamism. Natural vinification and sophisticated aging allow for a minimum of seven years of cellaring. Lots of appeal and very affordable. Rating of 4.2. In the meantime, its supple structure and delicious flavor make it the perfect companion for a duck confit parmentier from the Landes region with a Port sauce.
