Made from 40-year-old vines grown on sandy-clay soil and aged in casks, barrels, and amphorae, this Fronsac is simply marvelous. The nose reveals smoky, spicy notes, and hints of stewed fruit, all within a soft, mineral-driven profile. On the palate, aromas of strawberry and raspberry deliver a truly indulgent experience. Intense fruitiness gives way to a wine that is perfectly balanced, fresh, precise, and elegant. Try it with a roast. We love it!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Christine and Jean-Yves Millaire cultivate their vineyards using biodynamic methods in Canon-Fronsac (7 hectares), Fronsac (2.5 hectares), and Bordeaux. The Canon-Fronsac stands out for its tannic structure, which complements the fruit—ripe to perfection—without sacrificing its refreshing finish. It offers excellent value for money.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
A vineyard known for its consistent quality, established in the 1950s by Jean Garnier, it was leased out between 1979 and 1998 until the arrival of his grandson, Jean-Yves Millaire, who took over its direct management. The vineyard (30 hectares today) is cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods (certified in 2009 and 2012, respectively).

Wine rated (2023 guide) 92/100 (2019 vintage)
Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the estate:
With nearly 50 hectares of vineyards now cultivated using biodynamic methods, Jean-Yves Millaire proves wrong those who still believe that just because a producer is small, they must necessarily be better. The somewhat aggressive extractions of the early days (“it was the trend”) have been replaced by infusions. Millaire even manages to release a Beaujolais-style “primeur” in December: the pure Loupiot fruit juice, a sulfur-free blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, perfect for sipping... His aging methods are also breaking new ground: primarily large casks, a few amphorae, and barrels to best suit the different soil profiles, which are capable of supporting old, forgotten grape varieties: the winemaker is cultivating massale planting projects for new flavors. In the meantime, his worth is judged by his Canon-Fronzac and Fronsac wines, which have earned him a place in this guide today.

The same goes for Château Canon Pécresse, which has a robust mouthfeel.

Favorite in the "Favorite " category, this elegant 100% Merlot is beautifully structured around fresh, crisp red berries (strawberry, redcurrant, raspberry). Finely structured, the palate is slender and perfectly juicy, gradually giving way to vibrant, delicate tannins that lend a velvety texture to the lively fruit, finishing with a long, lingering return of aromatic intensity and radiant liveliness, bringing freshness and dynamism. Natural winemaking and sophisticated aging suggest it can be cellared for at least seven years. Great appeal and a very accessible price. Rating: 4.2. In the meantime, its supple structure, inviting indulgence, makes it the perfect companion today for a Landes-style duck confit parmentier with a Port sauce.
