About the estate:
The wine owes its class and character to the heart of the Cantenac plateau and its deep siliceous and clayey gravel, which the estate largely shares with Rauzan-Ségla. Under the direction of Henri Lurton, it consistently displays a suppleness and aromatic finesse all its own, making it highly sought after by wine lovers who appreciate what they expect from a fine Margaux. In the most recent vintages, it seems to have taken another step forward in the precision of its expression of the terroir. The second wine, Baron-de-Brane, shares the same aesthetic with a suppleness in the tannins that should appeal to many restaurateurs and wine lovers.

One might have wondered whether, in a vintage like 2009, Henri Lurton would manage to remain true to the spirit of the appellation, which prioritizes elegance above all else. Admittedly, his wine, cloaked in an elegant inky robe with garnet highlights, displays a slight youthful austerity on the finish—proof that it has time ahead of it. But after a supple attack, the palate combines real richness, texture, and substantial body with an inviting roundness and great finesse in the tannins. Add to this an intense and complex bouquet (fruit, spices, a hint of smokiness), and the result is a “true Brane”—balanced and charming—that has everything it takes to frustrate body-building enthusiasts. Equally round, pleasant, and well-structured, the 2009 Baron de Brane second wine also earns a star.
