"A wonderful example of Médoc character!"

"What identity in Potensac! We are in the Médoc, with this varietal freshness and then this well-balanced character, through precise, powerful but not demonstrative tannins. They provide a beautiful foundation for the entire palate, while the acidic structure gives it temperament. A wine that combines vigor and harmony. Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Undoubtedly the most highly regarded wine in the Médoc appellation, Potensac owes its success to the quality of the winemaking teams assembled by the Delon family, owners of the château, who work to the same exacting standards as at Léoville-Las Cases. The very old age of the vineyard, with some Cabernet plots over 80 years old, does not prevent it from being perfectly productive! The wine is classic in style, with notes of cedar on the nose and spices in the tannins, and a lot of firmness. It is currently evolving towards greater immediacy and suppleness. The latest vintages are majestic and classy, and will console all those who can no longer afford the most famous wines.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 92/100

About wine:

The nose is quite herbaceous, with a hint of medicine, aniseed, and blackberry fruit. Smooth and satisfying, this wine has a beautiful clarity of fruit, clean and bright, generous with lots of energy and Médoc character. Easy to drink with a fresh and classic touch—some bright red and blue fruit and a slightly chalky salinity. Very appealing and excellent to drink now with a juicy mid-palate. Drink now if you wish, but it will also age well. A fine example of a wine that shows real punch on the fresh finish. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 2024-2040

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

A beautiful estate located on one of the highest points in northern Médoc, this renowned cru, run by Jean-Hubert Delon (Léoville Las Cases), covers most of its 84 hectares on clay-gravel hilltops with limestone subsoil and a high proportion of gravel, a terroir similar to that of Saint-Estèphe. Not to be missed.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Bargain hunters know that Château Potensac is the flagship of the Médoc appellation, thanks to the 300,000 bottles produced each year and the consistency of its quality. The little brother of Léoville Las Cases, it benefits from all the expertise of the team and, thanks to the aging of the vineyard, now produces the best wine in its appellation. Delicious after two or three years in the bottle, it is also capable of aging for a long time. Its style combines generosity and precision, without heaviness or vulgarity.

About wine:

Potensac 2020 is a real gem. Lively acids give the 2020 remarkable energy that is immediately apparent. Crushed red fruits, blood orange, mint, rose petals, star anise, and crushed stones blend beautifully. This finely tailored and chiseled Médoc is a winner. I imagine it will age gracefully for many years to come. 2025-2035

Le Figaro wines

Le Figaro vins

Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100

About wine:

A generous nose of century-old Cabernet Franc, with notes of stewed fruit and blackcurrant leaves. On the palate, well-balanced acidity, more balanced than in the second wine, with licorice aromas and a fresh, slightly toasted finish. 2028-2043

Terre de Vins

Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100

About wine:

44% old Merlot on limestone dominates the blend. (...). Beautiful depth on the nose, a clean and chiseled profile, expressing smoky notes. The wine is straightforward and juicy, elegant, sapid, easy to drink, propelled by a lovely chalky note. A thirst-quenching and persistent finish.
