"An exceptional Potensac dominated by Cabernet. Very promising—and already fantastic—it’s a true success that offers excellent value for the price!"

“Potensac exudes character, temperament, and even (or especially) authority right from the start. It’s a Médoc wine, and it’s proud of it; and if, on top of that, it can make Cabernet Sauvignon shine, then it does so with gusto. In addition to notes of blackcurrant, Sichuan pepper, and eucalyptus, the bouquet impresses with its intensity and density. On the palate, the wine begins with freshness and then quickly reveals density. The chalky character is evident, as are the roundness and fullness of the tannins, which are as vigorous as they are charming. An exhilarating, powerful, flavorful, persistent, and compelling wine! What a magnificent success. Note its strong character, its reluctance to greet you with a smile, yet its ability to let its heart shine through when you appreciate it. It vaguely reminds me of an iconic figure from the region!” (Yves Beck 2024) - Delivery in a wooden crate is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and selected shipping method)

Rated estate (2021 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Undoubtedly the most highly regarded wine of the Médoc appellation, Potensac owes its success to the quality of the winemaking teams assembled by the Delon family, the château’s owners, who work according to the same exacting standards as at Léoville-Las Cases. The vineyard’s advanced age—with some Cabernet plots over 80 years old—does not prevent it from being perfectly productive! The wine embodies the classic style to the highest degree, with notes of cedar on the nose and spice in the tannins, and great firmness. It is currently evolving toward greater immediate finesse and suppleness. The most recent vintages are majestic and of the highest class; they will delight all those who can no longer afford the most famous wines.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 2*Stars (Outstanding Wine)

Rated Estate (2021 Guide) Award-Winning Wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

A vintage of unfailing consistency, blessed by nature (clay-gravel topsoil over a limestone base) and meticulously cared for by the teams at Léoville Las Cases. Blackberry, blueberry, red fruit jam, cinnamon, menthol—the nose is full of charm and sunshine. The concentrated body balances powerful, rich tannins in a structure that is certainly firm yet fresh, with a long finish and great promise. For cellaring.

About the estate:

A beautiful estate located on one of the highest points in the northern Médoc, this renowned cru—led by Jean-Hubert Delon (Léoville Las Cases)—spans most of its 84 hectares across clay-gravel ridges with limestone subsoil and a high proportion of gravel, a terroir similar to that of Saint-Estèphe. A must-visit.

Rated winery (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these wineries)

About the estate:

As bargain hunters know, Château Potensac is the flagship of the Médoc appellation, thanks to the 300,000 bottles it produces each year and the consistency of its quality. As the younger sibling of Léoville Las Cases, it benefits from the team’s full expertise, and thanks to the aging of the vineyard, it now produces the best wine in its appellation. Delicious after two or three years in the bottle, it also has the potential for long-term aging. Its style combines richness and precision, without heaviness or coarseness.

A true Potensac, dominated by Cabernet, with a long finish. A blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot, 19.5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Best enjoyed after 2028, but already fantastic and offering excellent value for the price.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94-95/100

About the wine:

This is the most “Cabernet-friendly” Potensac of all the recent vintages. Very flavorful, it has that pure Médoc style, enhanced with extra body and suppleness. Its richness on the palate is complemented by very finely woven tannins and a hint of licorice in the background, which carries the wine and lends it an extra touch of indulgence. It’s a real success—be sure to pick some up!

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

This is undoubtedly the best Potensac I have ever tasted, and it’s easy to see why. Its bouquet is rich with notes of tobacco, cedar, herbs, and black fruits. Packed with deep, ripe black fruit that gives it length, freshness, and fullness, this wine has an aging potential of more than two decades—if wine lovers can resist the temptation. This wine is a blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot, 19.5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. 14.52% ABV. Best enjoyed between 2026 and 2045.
