success story

"Black fruits still as 'al dente' as ever, with notes of blueberry, blackcurrant, and a hint of smoke with a touch of graphite. Noble spices too. Still long on the palate, with clarity and crystalline structure, precise and smooth tannins, almost sapid, with great finesse. One of the greatest of recent years. Superb. One of the greats of the vintage." (Anthocyanes 2020)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2016 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Along with Armailhac, this is the other fifth growth classified by the Rothschild family (Mouton). Long overshadowed by its elder brother Mouton and lacking a little personality, since the 2000s it has regained its character thanks to more rigorous and individualized management. A new, highly original winery, built entirely of wood in accordance with strict environmental specifications, now allows this superb Pauillac fifth growth to be vinified and aged in the best possible conditions. Its terroir is more clayey than that of the Mouton plateau, giving greater richness of expression to the Merlot grape variety, which is used here in greater proportions.

About wine:

This is an extremely successful Clerc Milon in a series of great vintages at the estate. Beautiful purity, big, clear tannins, real balance and tension. Persistent, succulent, full of blackcurrant, licorice, and crushed mint. Seriously impressive and will go far.

Rated estate (2016 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Formerly owned by Lafite, this classified growth was acquired during the Revolution by the Clerc family, who added the name of a hamlet in Pauillac to its name, then by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1970. Located between Mouton and Lafite, in the northeastern part of the appellation, it has a 41-hectare vineyard planted on prime terroir (mainly the Mousset hilltop overlooking the Gironde) and a new winery built in 2011.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 95/100

Rated estate (2016 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About wine:

The 2018 vintage, which we had the opportunity to taste, once again confirms its status as a great success for the vintage, which adds beautiful tension and precision to the tannic structure with its fleshy fruit. It will undoubtedly age very well.

About the estate:

This château is part of the Rothschild (Mouton) estate portfolio. It is always fascinating to compare it with its sister estate, Armailhac. Vinified by the same team, the latter is more traditional, with a significant proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in its blend, while the former has a higher proportion of Merlot. After a period of ups and downs, the wine is back to its best, with better definition in terms of concentration and velvety texture. The recent construction of a vat room and cellar has enabled the estate to go even further.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 95/100

About wine:

Blackcurrant, tobacco, graphite, cloves, and dried leaves on the nose. It is medium-bodied with firm, tight tannins. Structured and compact with a long, mineral finish. Tight and austere. Very nice structure here.

Yves Beck

Yves Beck

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Dense garnet red. The elegance and relevance of Pauillac are combined in this bouquet! Notes of black berries and licorice followed by a touch of graphite. Lively and juicy on the palate, where the wine not only has body, thanks to powerful and tight tannins, but also muscle, thanks to the tension of its acidic structure. The tannins are distinguished by their ability to reveal themselves slowly on the palate. Alongside its power, the wine has an elegant profile and a beautiful sense of quiet strength. Finally, the aromatic expression comes through just as well as on the nose, perfectly supporting the finish, which is fruity and persistent.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2021 guide) 94-95/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is elegant and distinguished, offering beautiful finesse, power (while remaining controlled), concentration, delicacy, and subtlety. There are notes of bright blackberry, fleshy Gariguette strawberry and, more subtly, bright blackcurrant, combined with hints of cardamom, gravel/terroir, violet, ripe/pulpy black berries, as well as subtle hints of tobacco, spices and a subtle hint of cubeb pepper. The palate is fruity, balanced, beautifully delicate, masterful and delicate, offering smoothness, minerality, just the right amount of concentration, fullness, freshness, good structure, a lovely delicate and creamy touch, and deliciousness.  On the palate, this wine expresses notes of luscious/bright blackberry, crushed blackcurrant and, more subtly, luscious/juicy strawberry, combined with hints of crushed raspberry, luscious purple plum, chocolate, cardamom, tobacco, subtle hints of bergamot, toasted hazelnut, and subtle hints of toasted/caramelized oak. The tannins are precise and elegant. A very nice, smooth, and delicious finish.
