Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
This wine is made from grapes grown on several plots spread throughout the appellation. One of them, located in the Grand Puy area, gave the wine its name and produces the most distinguished component of the blend, which has developed well under the guidance of the highly skilled Anne Le Naour. There is still room for improvement, which will be made possible by the imminent construction of a new fermentation tank, allowing for precise plot-by-plot selections and even more meticulous aging.
Decanter
Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100
About the wine:
The mid-palate is much fuller-bodied, with a smooth, velvety texture. The finish, however, retains a classic Pauillac character. A standout in 2019. Fresh, juicy fruit, black berries, and currants. An enticing, fragrant nose. 2024–2028
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
The estate, which was largely established in the 18th century by the lawyer Arnaud Ducasse, took on its current name in 1932. The château, which overlooks the Gironde River, dates back to 1820. This 40-hectare vineyard consists of three large plots of gravelly soil and has been owned by CA Grands Crus (part of the Crédit Agricole group) since 2004.

About the estate:
Like Meyney, Grand-Puy Ducasse is owned by a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole (CA Grands Crus). While we were somewhat disappointed by certain vintages from the early 2000s—which clearly fell short of the standard expected of a good cru classé—things are changing: the estate’s stated ambition is to produce a wine worthy of its status. Anne Le Naour, who manages the estate and oversees winemaking, is adding subtle touches of the refinement that the wine often lacked. Since 2015, progress has been steady.

About the wine:
This is the second wine of the Grand-Puy Ducasse Cru Classé. Composed of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it clearly contains a significant portion of the Merlot that was not selected for the first wine. This means the wine is supple and approachable and will develop relatively quickly. It is full-bodied and dense, with subtle smoky notes and pronounced tannins. Best enjoyed from 2025. - Roger Voss

About the wine:
This wine has a smoky character with notes of blackcurrant and plum, bark, toasted oak, and chocolate. There are also hints of mushroom. Medium-bodied, with polished tannins and a velvety texture. An earthy finish. An excellent second wine. Best enjoyed after 2025.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 90/100
About the wine:
As the second wine of this remarkable château, it boasts a deep purple-plum color and a lively bouquet of red and black fruits, wet river pebbles, smoked tobacco, and chocolatey oak. This is a rich, medium- to full-bodied Pauillac with good density on the mid-palate, remarkable ripeness, abundant tannins, and a magnificent finish. It lacks the elegance of the Grand Vin, but it is a satisfying Pauillac to drink over the next 15 years.
