"A very fine achievement, built to stand the test of time!"

"Château Grand-Puy Ducasse 2022 is a magnificent wine that could well surpass the 2020 vintage. Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), but with a healthy dose of Merlot (40%) and a touch of Petit Verdot, this gorgeous wine boasts a deep purple color, as well as powerful aromas of cassis, spicy oak, freshly sharpened pencils and chalky minerality. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate, this full-bodied, complex, nicely textured and concentrated Pauillac has powerful tannins, good mid-palate depth and an excellent finish. It's not for instant gratification, however, and will need to be forgotten for 5-7 years, if not a decade." Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

This cru is made from several parcels spread throughout the appellation. One, in the Grand Puy area, gives it its name and produces the most racy part of the blend, which has progressed well under the guidance of the highly competent Anne Le Naour. There are still a few areas for improvement, which will be made possible by the imminent construction of a new vat room, enabling precise parcel selections and even more meticulous ageing.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

Lively and ample, the tannins are imposing and immediately invade the mouth with a fleshy mass of cassis, licorice, graphite, slate, tobacco and cinnamon. It's slightly more savory than too spicy, which I appreciate. Fresh notes of blueberry and mint enhance the whole. A masterful wine, certainly powerful and well-balanced. It could benefit from a little more acidity and juiciness on the mid-palate, which would make it more accessible, but Pauillac lovers will appreciate its power. 2027-2049

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

A pinch (2%) of Petit Verdot shoulders the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in this well-aged 2022 (18 months in barrels), open to black fruits and toasted hazelnut. Fine, firm tannins add tension to a creamy, well-dense palate, with pepper on the finish. A classic, medium-bodied wine that can be opened without too much delay. 2027-2035

About the domain :

Essentially created in the 18th century by the lawyer Arnaud Ducasse, the estate took its present name in 1932. The château overlooking the Gironde dates back to 1820. Three large parcels of gravel make up this 40-hectare cru, owned by CA Grands Crus (Crédit Agricole Group) since 2004.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

Like Meyney, Grand-Puy Ducasse is owned by a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole (CA Grands Crus). If we were a little disappointed by some of the vintages from the early 2000s, clearly below the level of a good cru classé, things are changing: the estate's stated ambition is to produce a wine worthy of its rank. Anne Le Naour, who manages the vineyard and supervises vinification, is gradually bringing the refinement that was often lacking to the estate. Since 2015, progress has been steady.

About the wine:

Barrel sample. This estate, whose château is located on Pauillac's main street, has produced a wine with a fine texture, rich tannins and a powerful structure. Its blackcurrant aromas add a lovely touch of fruitiness and acidity. - Roger Voss

Graded area (2021 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

Notes of blackcurrant and pencil come through clearly here, with nuances of crushed stone that continue into a full body, with a solid, defined and refined fruity heart. Velvety, it then transforms into a refined silk with a beautiful finish. Please give it at least 4 or 5 years to open up and blossom.

About the wine:

Built to stand the test of time! Deep, luminous garnet, the tannic architecture corsets a fine velvet texture, the palette delivers black fruit, sweet spices, including cinnamon, heated stone and lime blossom. Enough freshness to contain the power of the vintage.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

Grand-Puy Ducasse displays depth and definition through its many nuances, combining notes of graphite, dark berries, licorice and a touch of wood. The finesse suggested by the bouquet is perfectly assimilated by the palate, where the wine is carried by smooth, powerful tannins. It clearly underlines that it will need time to blossom, and that it has all the elements necessary for long ageing. Certainly one of the best Grand-Puy Ducasse in a long time. 2028-2047
