A sign of the times, Philippine de Rothschild chose a gouache by British artist Anish Kapoor, who is of Indian origin, to illustrate this vintage, whose color is almost as deep black as the artist's canvas. A hue that speaks volumes about the wine's potential. Concentrated and complex, the bouquet follows suit, displaying a wide palette dominated by black fruits and notes of coffee with milk, enhanced by hints of incense. Rich, round, full-bodied, fleshy, and full, the palate confirms the presentation, playing on a symphonic register, carried by a texture of exceptional density and an unforgettable finish. The only question is: when will this very fine wine reach its absolute peak? In ten, fifteen or twenty-five years? (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2013) Delivery in wooden cases for all orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method).

Wine rated 19.5/20 (Wine of exceptional quality)
5-star estate (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About wine:
Ultra-elegant, with a very rich aroma and a dreamlike texture, without the slightest simplification resulting from the blending of Cabernet Sauvignon.
About the estate:
Philippine de Rothschild left her children a property in excellent condition, managed by an impeccable technical team. Originally called Brane-Mouton, the property became Mouton-Rothschild in 1853 when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired it. His great-grandson Philippe took over in 1922 and began marketing the wine in bottles. The privileged terroir of Mouton and its very old vines, magnified in recent vintages thanks to favorable weather conditions and the help of a magnificent winery built in 2013, produce what is perhaps the most formally perfect wine in the Médoc. This will not prevent it from closing up in a great vintage before reaching what is predicted to be a glorious peak. The second wine, Petit Mouton, resembles the grand cru like a little brother, and the white, Aile d'Argent, is gradually becoming one of the most complete in the Médoc.

About the estate:
Acquired in 1853 by the Rothschild family, Ch. Mouton Rothschild is closely linked to the personality of Baron Philippe. Taking over the estate in 1922, he restored it to its former glory by modernizing it (notably with the construction of the famous "grand chai" wine cellar), work which culminated in 1973 with the revision of the 1855 classification and Mouton's promotion to the rank of Premier Cru Classé. Baron Philippe also made the estate the foundation of a small empire comprising other vineyards and a wine merchant. He also played an important role in the history of wine by being one of the first to bottle at the château, starting in 1926, and by having his labels illustrated by artists. From 1988 onwards, his daughter Philippine, who passed away in 2014, continued his work. Her children, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, succeeded her. Philippe Dhalluin has been the director since 2003. At his disposal is an 84-hectare vineyard located mainly on a very deep gravel hilltop known as the "Plateau de Mouton" and a brand new winery built in 2013.

Wine rating (2019 guide) 99/100 (Exceptional)
About wine:
Dark garnet in color, the 2009 Mouton Rothschild eschews earthy notes of undergrowth, tilled soil, and mushrooms, focusing instead on a core of crème de cassis, plum jam, and Indian spices with a hint of camphor. Full-bodied, with a firm texture and velvety tannins, with notes of black fruit preserves and layers of exotic spices, it offers consistent freshness and a very long, fruity finish.

Wine rated 19.5/20 (Exceptional wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)
About wine:
Tasted immediately after bottling, it confirms its status as a great success. It is a very complete wine, creamy and silky, yet powerful and straightforward. The fruit is crisp and the tannins are perfectly integrated. A legend for the vintage.
About the estate:
Philippe Sereys de Rothschild has presided over this iconic family estate in Pauillac since 2014. The wine, always flamboyant, naturally exuding generous smoky notes, is more refined than ever. Although Mouton experienced a slump in the mid-1990s, it made a brilliant comeback in the early 2000s. This was followed by a series of magnificent vintages that continue to write the legend of the only 1855 classified growth to have been promoted: from second growth, it logically moved up to first growth in 1973. Philippe Dhalluin, the architect of the estate's revival, has handed over the reins to a strong duo formed by Ariane Khaida (managing director) and Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy (technical director). Mouton, which has had a new cellar since 2013, is evolving at the very top. Of particular note is the progress made by the white wine, which is clearer and more precise than ever.
