Château Pédesclaux
Château Pédesclaux was founded in the early 19th century, in 1810, by Mr. Urbain Pierre Pédesclaux, a well-known and highly respected wine broker in Bordeaux. In 1855, Château Pédesclaux was classified as a Fifth Growth in Pauillac. The Count of Gastebois purchased the estate in 1891. The estate underwent a complete renovation, which improved the quality of the wines. Purchased by Mr. Lorenzetti, who also owned Château Lilian-Ladouys, he initiated the reorganization of Château Pédesclaux’s vineyard by acquiring new plots. He also implemented an extensive replanting program and completely overhauled the production team. All of this was done with a single goal in mind: to improve the quality of the wine and restore it to its former glory.

At the time of the 1855 classification, Château Pédesclaux comprised a 25-hectare vineyard located in the commune of Pauillac. It was divided into two groups of plots and two types of soil. On one side, gravel soils over a clay-limestone base located in the northern part of the appellation between Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Pontet-Canet—terroir that favors power and bouquet. On the other, siliceous gravel soils in western Pauillac near Château Lynch-Bages—soils that tend to produce finesse and minerality. As for the grape varieties at Château Pédesclaux, they reflect a tendency toward Merlot for a Médoc Cru Classé. Merlot accounts for 45% of the vineyard, with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.
