Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2015 guide) 92/100
Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the wine:
Some samples are dominated by oak, while others reveal a deep, full-bodied wine with a real richness of sap.
About the estate:
For many years, this estate was renowned first and foremost for its white wine—one of the most well-rounded in Léognan—and later for its red, which, at its best, is one of the finest expressions of the Pessac-Léognan character. The past decade has seen the return of Fieuzal white to its former glory. The new, state-of-the-art cellars, equipped with numerous small tanks of varying capacities—made of concrete, stainless steel, or wood—now allow Stephen Carrier, the director, to craft wines of the highest caliber.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
The black cherry aromas are still subtle, with moderate intensity and tannic structure. The estate’s signature style is evident: firm and full-bodied, with less complexity than other Pessac estates, but the dark, velvety fruit is unmistakable. It has excellent aging potential. 2023–2035

Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
This classified growth, located in the very south of Léognan, produced some of Bordeaux’s finest white wines in the 1980s. After being sold to Banque Populaire in 1994, Fieuzal declined until 2001. That was the year Irish businessman Lochlann Quinn acquired it, then hired Stephen Carrier, originally from Champagne, as director. From then on, the estate regained its excellent standing, with a clear focus on body, structure, and tannic elegance in the reds, and freshness following the arrival of consultant Thomas Duclos. With some setbacks (2013) and major successes (2008), the whites are gradually regaining their full-bodied, intense character and aging potential.

Rated winery (2023 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
The complex, flavorful, herbaceous, and earthy nose gives way to a medium-bodied wine with real depth and a lovely freshness on the finish, where the tannins are present but well-integrated.

Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2016 guide) 92-93/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is fruity, rich, and quite elegant. It features notes of blackberry, blackcurrant liqueur, and a hint of licorice, combined with toasty oak. The palate is fruity, rich, elegant, and well-balanced. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of blackberry and blackcurrant cream combined with hints of cherry, minerality, strawberry, licorice/chocolate, toasty oak, and subtle notes of vanilla. The finish is smooth and rich. The tannins are fine and well-integrated. Good length.

Remarkable. A vintage ready to drink—let it breathe for at least two hours—absolutely magnificent! Silky, with well-integrated tannins, and truly elegant.
