"This reliable wine shows a freshness of life and a bubbly character!"
"Precise, complex bouquet, marked by black berry aromas followed by chalky nuances. The wine is dense, creamy, lively, and perfectly supported by its acidic structure. The latter ensures freshness and tension and offers a bright future for this excellent wine. Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Château Grand Corbin-Despagne is undoubtedly the best value for money in Saint-Émilion, with its 29 hectares located on a terroir dominated by sandy soils. The owner, François Despagne, has worked tirelessly to achieve this result, with a commitment to organic farming that contributes to the success of the wine. This Saint-Émilion combines vigor, silkiness, aromatic distinction, and superb evolution over time. A tasting from 2016 back to 1947 allowed us to perfectly identify the style of the vintage, which has a finesse and harmony superior to many "modern" classified growths. As it evolves, it can resemble a great Pomerol in several vintages.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
About the estate:
In 2019, this great wine has breath and energy, which respond to the clay soils. It has great aging potential. With more tension, texture, a hint of licorice, and peppery tannins, the 2018 is not quite ready yet but promises a bright future. The 2015 vintage, with its blood-red color, develops a richness of frank and powerful tannins with a stylish straightforwardness.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100
About wine:
This 2016 vintage has a nose anchored in smoky aromas and a palate that is still restrained but incredibly concentrated. The vintage suits this château well, drawing on its resources to give impetus to this great wine for aging.

Barrel sample. Powerful tannins and ripe fruit dominate this wine. With a solid, straightforward character, it is generous and opulent. The tannins and concentration are there, giving it great aging potential. - Roger Voss

Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2018 guide) 94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About wine:
The nose is elegant, fruity, racy, and offers a lovely delicacy and intensity. It reveals notes of fleshy blackberry, crushed black berries and, more subtly, fleshy blueberry, combined with hints of strawberry, toast, and touches of minty licorice, almond, very discreet hints of vanilla, and a subtle hint of sweet blond tobacco. The palate is fruity, delicate, balanced, harmonious, well-structured and offers good definition, lovely finesse, power, a tangy texture and a little juiciness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry, crushed blackcurrant and, more subtly, fleshy strawberry, combined with delicate hints of almond, toast, violet, vanilla and a subtle hint of chocolate (in the background). The tannins are elegant and delicately firm. Good length.

Review and opinion by Mr. FABIEN L. Published on 11/01/2025
Perhaps not the finest wine ever created, but ultimately this is a very good St-Emilion grand cru classé, fragrant, full-bodied, typical, flawless, and with great aging potential, all at a reasonable price. What more could you ask for?
