Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

Château Grand Corbin-Despagne is certainly the best value for money in Saint-Émilion, with its 29 hectares situated on a terroir dominated by sand. Owner Francois Despagne has worked tirelessly to achieve this result, with an organic commitment that contributes to the cru's success. This Saint-Émilion reconciles vigor, silkiness, aromatic distinction and superb evolution over time. A tasting from 2016 to 1947 enabled us to perfectly define the style of the cru, which possesses a finesse and harmony superior to many "modern" style crus classés. As it evolves, it can resemble a great Pomerol over several vintages.

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About the domain :

In 2019, the great wine has breath and energy, which respond to the clays. Great ageing awaits. More about tension, touch, a hint of licorice and peppery tannins, the 2018 isn't quite there yet, but bodes well for the future. The 2015, with its bloody juice, develops a richness of straightforward, powerful tannins with stylish uprightness.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Different in firmness, the profile of the second wine in 2018 has perhaps a little more depth but also rigor. Peak: 2025

Le Figaro vins

Estate rated 93/100

About the domain :

The wines evoke red fruits and flowers, with intense, complex aromas, then evolving towards more spices. Finesse and smoothness characterize the palate. Velvety tannins.

Vert de Vin

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2020 guide) 91/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About the wine:

The nose is fruity and offers greediness, good definition and fine uprightness. Notes of full-bodied blackcurrant, full-bodied blue berries and, to a lesser extent, full-bodied strawberry are combined with delicate hints of violet, fresh lily, licorice and very discreet hints of sweet spices. The palate is fruity and well-balanced, with an acidic structure, juiciness, greediness and a touch of freshness, straightness and stretch. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackcurrant, juicy blackberry and, more lightly, fleshy strawberry, combined with touches of pulpy/juicy small red berries, as well as hints of chocolate/tonka bean, violet, vanilla and a discreet hint of sweet spices. The tannins are precise, well-managed and very finely mellow. A precise, well-stretched, fruit-driven wine.
