Château Beau-Site - Saint-Estèphe 2018
94/100
James Suckling
"Don't miss it!"
“Cloves, spices, and a hint of citrus peel with aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry. Licorice, too. It’s full-bodied and very tight, with ultra-fine, firm tannins and a long, creamy finish. Elegant and well-structured. Very classic in style. Best enjoyed after 2024. ” (James Suckling 2021) . Excellent value for the appellation.

About the estate:
A magnificent Chartreuse overlooking the river, Beau-Site boasts one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the northern part of the appellation. It is owned by Philippe Castéja, who also owns the Châteaux Batailley and Trottevieille. The estate produces an elegant, distinguished wine that is always full-bodied without lacking finesse or elegance. The estate has reached a new milestone.

On a solid structure, the full-bodied palate reveals a generous array of highly ripe red and black fruits, complemented by a hint of mocha and well-balanced oak. These flavors, enhanced by a lovely freshness, infuse a supple, caressing texture with very well-integrated tannins, and linger in an exceptional finish. This delightful dark horse paired beautifully with a hare stew and steamed potatoes. Rating = 4.

Elegant, with a focus on fruit rather than tannins.
