Château Beau-Site - Saint-Estèphe 2018
94/100
James Suckling
"Don't miss it!"
“Cloves, spices, and a hint of citrus peel with aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry. Licorice, too. It’s full-bodied and tightly structured, with ultra-fine, firm tannins and a long, creamy finish. Racy and structured. Very classic in style. Best enjoyed after 2024. ” (James Suckling 2021) . Excellent value for money from the appellation.

Rated estate (2021 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
A magnificent Chartreuse estate overlooking the river, Beau-Site boasts one of the most beautiful views in the northern part of the appellation. It is owned by Philippe Castéja, who also owns the Châteaux Batailley and Trottevieille. The estate produces an elegant, distinguished wine that is always full-bodied without lacking finesse or elegance. The estate has reached a new milestone.

About the wine:
Extremely appealing aromas of ripe plums and peaches with spices, such as nutmeg. Full-bodied, deep, and with a firm texture, featuring lovely fruit and a long, savory finish. The best since 1989. Best enjoyed after 2021.

Built on a solid foundation, the full-bodied palate offers a generous array of ripe red and black fruits, complemented by a hint of mocha and well-balanced oak. These flavors, enhanced by a lovely freshness, infuse a supple, velvety texture with beautifully integrated tannins, and linger in an exceptionally long finish. This lovely underdog paired beautifully with a hare stew and steamed potatoes. Rating = 4.
