"One of the best buys in the appellation, combining elegance and character!"

“Spicy with fresh herbs, forest leaves, and Asian spices that complement the blackcurrant and blackberry. There is plenty of freshness in the ripe fruit, concentration, and a lovely touch of cocoa, as well as a firm tannic edge that allows the wine to age and evolve. This is clearly the best Beau-Site vintage ever produced! ” (Jeff Leve 2022).

Wine rated 92/100

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the wine:

Elegant, with well-defined tannins and no heaviness, featuring notes of red berries and a lovely, lingering finish. A charming balance.

About the estate:

A magnificent Chartreuse overlooking the river, Beau-Site boasts one of the most beautiful views in the northern part of the appellation. It is owned by Philippe Castéja, who also owns the Châteaux Batailley and Trottevieille. The estate produces an elegant, distinguished wine that is always full-bodied without lacking finesse or elegance. The estate has reached a new milestone.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

The wine has a deep purple color; the attack is distinctly austere, but it is accompanied by concentrated blackcurrant fruit and a firm tannic structure. The appellation’s signature is clearly present, with a hint of bitterness on the finish that leans toward coffee grounds. 2024–2038

About the wine:

This wine has plenty of spicy character, with nutmeg and cloves complementing the redcurrants and berries. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a smooth finish. A robust young red wine from this estate. Best enjoyed after 2025 and beyond.

Terre de Vins

Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Part of the Castéja family, this vineyard is ideally situated on a hilltop adjacent to Calon-Ségur. It perfectly embodies the appellation’s character with its notes of graphite, blackcurrant, and dark fruit. On the palate, it surprises with its roundness, velvety tannins, and savory texture. The Merlot-Cabernet blend is beautifully integrated, and the 3% Petit Verdot adds a lively touch. Definitely a good deal.

I opened a bottle in 2024 and it still seemed a bit closed... but the one I opened last Friday was perfect, so I'm going to order some more (a 13.5% wine with a perfect palate and finish).
