"Gloria has long been one of the most popular wines in America, but I don't think they've ever made better wines than they have over the past decade, and 2009 is one of the best. Although this estate is not a classified growth, it certainly ranks as one in 2009. A dense ruby-purple color is accompanied by an expressive and flamboyant bouquet of black fruit, Christmas spices, licorice, and herbes de Provence. An elegant wine with beautiful aromatic depth. Smooth and velvety on the palate, with notes of blackcurrant and blackberry, and subtle oak. A licorice-tinged finish.
About the estate:
Superbly situated in the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle and surrounded by noble peers, Château Gloria is now owned by Jean-Louis Triaud and his wife, the daughter of Henri Martin, its “founder” (just like Château Saint-Pierre). This estate has now fully regained its former glory. Gloria’s wines feature pure fruit and a supple structure, with exceptionally refined tannins. They are true classics of the appellation.

About the wine:
A beautiful estate spanning some 50 hectares, this vineyard produces a wine with a striking garnet color. Highly expressive, the bouquet features notes of baked fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla, and spices. Supple and lively on the palate, it strikes a fine balance between oak and fruit, supported by a subtle liveliness and high-quality tannins. Best opened in four or five years.
About the estate:
This estate, which today spans 50 hectares, was built from the ground up starting in 1942 by one of the region’s leading figures, Henri Martin, who for years acquired plots from Grand Cru Classé vineyards in the heart of Beychevelle, as well as to the west and north of the appellation. His daughter Françoise and her husband Jean-Louis Triaud, who managed Gloria and the entire Domaines Martin estate, handed over control of their properties to their son Jean in 2016.

Gloria 2009 is a very smart buy for those looking to maximize their value for money.

The 2009 vintage, made from 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and an equal percentage of Petit Verdot, is dense and firm, with a powerful yet ripe tannic structure. It is a full-bodied, fleshy wine with plenty of richness.
