About the estate:

Superbly situated in the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle and surrounded by noble peers, Château Gloria is now owned by Jean-Louis Triaud and his wife, the daughter of Henri Martin, its “founder” (just like Château Saint-Pierre). This estate has now fully regained its former glory. Gloria’s wines feature pure fruit and a supple structure, with exceptionally refined tannins. They are true classics of the appellation.

From the same producer as Château Saint-Pierre, this estate—gradually assembled by Henri Martin from various plots sourced from classified growths—now spans 50 hectares. A diverse yet no less noble origin that yields wines of remarkable consistency. The 2010 stands out for its brilliant color and complex bouquet, which subtly blends blackcurrant, blackberry, licorice, toasted notes, and a hint of roasted peanut. Dense and full-bodied, with lovely fruitiness and supported by tight, still somewhat firm tannins, the palate suggests excellent aging potential.

About the estate:

This estate, which today spans 50 hectares, was built from the ground up starting in 1942 by one of the region’s leading figures, Henri Martin, who for years acquired plots from classified growths in the heart of Beychevelle, as well as to the west and north of the appellation. His daughter Françoise and her husband Jean-Louis Triaud, who managed Gloria and the entire Domaines Martin estate, handed over the reins of their properties to their son Jean in 2016.

Robust yet subtle, this 2010 stands out somewhat from the more supple vintages Gloria has accustomed us to. In magnum format, it will take a little time to open up, but what class!

The 2010 Gloria is a superb estate wine that would likely be classified if the 1855 hierarchy were to be revised. Abundant notes of cedar wood, fruitcake, flowers, crème de cassis, and kirsch rise to the nose of this full-bodied, opulent, dense, and dark wine, which boasts a ruby-purple hue. It is a bit more restrained than the flamboyant 2009, but of equal quality. A juicy, well-balanced, and concentrated Gloria to be enjoyed over the coming decades.

This reputation is well-deserved, as evidenced by the latest vintages. Always full-bodied, colorful, and concentrated, the wine has rarely disappointed over the past decade. It ages harmoniously, but those in a hurry can enjoy it as early as five years after bottling.
