Wine rated 17/20 (Top-rated wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

Brilliant, smooth, subtly spiced, long and mellow, with great structure. The color of a great vintage, a precise nose, a well-integrated body, racy, and quite tender given the power of the tannins; a wine of class and character that has regained the aromatic purity it has sometimes lacked.

About the estate:

This estate, one of the most deservedly popular in the Médoc, is still owned by the Cordier family. It produces a substantial volume of wine, which has gained in character and definition since 2014. For many, Talbot embodies the ideal of a Saint-Julien: generously aromatic, very consistent, and reliable for aging. A lovely dry white wine, aromatic and lively, continues to be produced under the Caillou-Blanc label. The intelligent winemaking, carried out with the help of Stéphane Derenoncourt in a skillfully modernized fermentation room and cellar, is bearing fruit.

Rated wine (2018 guide) 17.5/20 + Favorite (Great wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

Talbot returns to the top with this 2015 vintage, which boasts superb density and, above all, remarkable precision in its aromas, with a smooth and generous fruitiness.

About the estate:

This renowned brand, rightly appreciated by wine lovers, has made a strong comeback and is now producing the wines we have come to expect from it. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and skillfully managed, Nancy Bignon-Cordier’s vast estate, led by Jean-Michel Laporte, is reclaiming the glory of its past, producing wines that are more subtle and refined than ever. A flamboyant wine, the archetype of the great classic Saint-Julien.

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About the wine:

This wine feels as though it’s built around its structure and tannins. The fruit emerges very gradually and takes its time to come to the fore. But the dark fruit is there, ripe and promising for the future. It’s best not to drink it before 2025.

I gave this wine to my son, who, like me, is a big fan of "St. Julien" wines. He hasn't opened it yet because he wisely believes it will be at its best in 3 to 5 years.
