Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2023 guide) 96/100
Rated estate (2022 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
With its rich cedar aroma and full-bodied texture, we thoroughly enjoyed this sample, which perfectly captured the unique harmony characteristic of the finest Saint-Juliens.
About the estate:
This estate, one of the most deservedly popular in the Médoc, is still owned by the Cordier family. It produces a substantial volume of wine, which has gained in character and definition since 2014. For many, Talbot embodies the ideal Saint-Julien: generously aromatic, very consistent, and reliable for aging. A lovely dry white wine, aromatic and lively, continues to be produced under the Caillou-Blanc label. The intelligent winemaking, guided by Stéphane Derenoncourt in a skillfully modernized fermentation room and cellar, is bearing fruit.

About the estate:
This distinguished estate, rightly prized by wine lovers, has made a strong comeback, now producing the wines we have come to expect from it. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and expertly managed, Nancy Bignon-Cordier’s vast estate—led by Jean-Michel Laporte—is reclaiming the glory of its past, producing wines that are more subtle and refined than ever. A flamboyant wine, the archetype of the great classic Saint-Julien.

James Suckling
Wine rated (2025 guide) 96/100
About the wine:
The aromas of blackcurrant and dried flowers, combined with fresh herbs like basil and rosemary, are incredibly alluring. Medium- to full-bodied, this wine features firm yet velvety tannins, with a tension and concentration I haven’t encountered in a long time. The finish is long and smooth. Solid. Best enjoyed after 2028 and beyond.
Terre de Vins
Wine rated (2023 guide) 95-96/100
About the wine:
The wine shows immediate concentration, with a dense texture and a tubular mouthfeel that unfolds with elegance. The body is robust, everything is well-integrated, the aromas are subtle (blackcurrant, elderflower), and the tannins are firm but not harsh. A very serious Talbot that has the potential to become a classic over time.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2024 guide) 97/100
About the wine:
Talbot’s bouquet unfolds gradually. It begins with a hint of reduction before revealing notes of black berries, cedar, and graphite. With a little air, it also reveals spicy notes and a refreshing touch of eucalyptus. With good density, the wine stands out for the subtlety of its power, its harmony, and its perfectly integrated tannins. A refined austerity ensures freshness and enhances the aromatic expression of the finish. A truly beautiful success from Talbot! 2029–2052
