Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2022 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
This estate, among the most deservedly popular in the Médoc, still belongs to the Cordier family. It produces a substantial output, which has gained in definition and vigor since 2014. For many, Talbot embodies the ideal of Saint-Julien: generously aromatic, remarkably stable, and reliable with age. A lovely dry white wine, aromatic and vibrant, continues to be produced under the Caillou-Blanc label. The intelligent work carried out with the help of Stéphane Derenoncourt in a skillfully modernized winery and cellar is bearing fruit.
Decanter
Wine rated (2022 guide) 88/100
About the wine:
A very seductive nose of raspberry. The palate is bright and lively, with an almost sorbet-like touch of strawberry and raspberry, before the creamy, chalky texture takes over. Plenty of energy here, though not the heaviest. The tannins are so silky, really well integrated. This wine is easy to drink. Well-balanced and straightforward, with no hollowness in the mid-palate. 2024-2039

Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2022 guide) 90-91/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is fruity, beautifully fresh, precise, and elegant, offering a subtle power, a delicate ethereal quality on the palate, and a velvety texture. It reveals notes of fresh, juicy boysenberry, ripe strawberry, and a lighter touch of violet, along with hints of salinity and iodine, as well as subtle hints of star anise, a discreet touch of licorice/sap, and ripe red berries. The palate is fruity, fresh, and mineral, offering purity, tension, freshness/minerality, lovely definition, a digestible/indulgent/refined character, and classic elegance. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fresh, juicy blackberry, blackcurrant, and a touch of clove, along with hints of fresh peony/lily, fresh raspberry, juicy red berries, and subtle sap notes, saline gravel, a hint of toast/chocolate, and an imperceptible touch of coconut. The tannins are supple and flavorful. Good length.
