“One of the best Talbots of recent years, and probably the best since the 1986 and 1982 vintages. This monumental wine, with its opaque purple color, offers sensational notes of blackcurrant, licorice, toasted herbs, and smoke. It is a brilliant, full-bodied wine with wonderful fruit, broad and flavorful on the palate, with a long finish, free of harshness or astringency. This is a fabulous Talbot to enjoy over the next 20–25 years.” (Wine Advocate – Robert Parker)

Wine rated (2014 guide) 17,5/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

A powerful yet balanced wine with a refined texture, a distinct Saint-Julien character, and a pleasing length—a wine of class with a bright future ahead. Talbot just the way we like it.

About the estate:

This estate, one of the most deservedly popular in the Médoc, is still owned by the Cordier family. It produces a substantial volume of wine, which has gained in character and definition since 2014. For many, Talbot embodies the ideal Saint-Julien: generously aromatic, very consistent, and reliable for aging. A lovely dry white wine, aromatic and lively, continues to be produced under the Caillou-Blanc label. The intelligent winemaking, guided by Stéphane Derenoncourt in a skillfully modernized fermentation room and cellar, is bearing fruit.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine rated (2014 guide) 2** stars (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

A vast 102-hectare estate located in the heart of the appellation, this vineyard benefits from a prime terroir, which the team led by Nancy Bignon-Cordier and Jean-Pierre Marty—advised by Stéphane Derenoncourt since the 2008 vintage—knows how to make the most of, producing wines renowned for their generous and powerful character. The 2010 fits well with the estate’s style, offering an “extra touch of soul” compared to the 2009, which was already excellent. Announcing its youth with a black color and violet highlights, it stands out for its intense and complex aromatic expression, a subtle balance between floral (violet), fruity (red and black fruit jam), and woody (blond tobacco, cinnamon, roasted coffee) notes. A most refined bouquet that extends into a palate that is at once dense and precise, rich and fresh. “Very Saint-Julien in body and spirit,” concludes one taster, who sees great promise for the coming decade in this powerful and distinguished wine.

Wine rated (2013 guide) 17/20 (Outstanding)

About the wine:

An incredible wine that epitomizes the Saint-Julien style, with great finesse. The already velvety tannins will continue to soften, blending seamlessly with rich yet elegant fruit.

Tasted in June 2024 with flank steak with shallots and Provençal tomatoes. The color is a deep purple with beautiful depth. The nose is opulent with notes of very ripe fruit. The palate is savory, smooth, and very well-balanced. The oak aging is mellow and well-integrated, adding a sense of harmony and extra richness. A wine at its peak!

Disappointing—no lingering finish. The alcohol overpowers the wine. The fruit notes are barely noticeable. Poor value for money. Michel
