About the estate:

The estate now produces the truly great wines that its terroir allows, with perfect consistency and a complex yet carefully considered range of first and second wines, as well as two remarkable dry wines. It’s hard to choose between the sweet second wines—Lion, which is a bit more modern and exuberant, and the more classic Castelnau—because both are crafted without compromise, featuring a lovely roasted character from the grapes. Among the dry wines, S has a bit more density than the standard dry wine. Only Yquem comes close to surpassing it, especially in terms of aging.

About the wine:

The 2022 joins the 2017 in the pantheon of great successes from this benchmark vintage. Deep golden and dense, the color heralds a powerful and rich nose, true to the spirit of the vintage: notes of honey and candied fruit dominate, accompanied by hints of gingerbread and vanilla resulting from an ambitious aging process (18 months in barrels, 70% of which were new). Rich and full-bodied from the first sip, brimming with candied fruit, the palate offers a dense and concentrated texture (yields of 7 hl/ha), very enveloping and punctuated by a subtle acidity that lends brilliance and length to the fruit. A major Sauternes that will stand the test of time. 2030–2055

With a sugar content of nearly 190 g of residual sugar, the Suduiraut 2022 ranks among the special vintages—those that leave a lasting impression. The apricot flavor is irresistible. Compared to other Premiers Crus, it takes the opulence of the texture and the intensity of the flavor up another notch. Balance and purity complement the fruit, rounding out this extravagant richness. Masterful!

About the estate:

This vast estate was acquired in 1992 by AXA Millésimes. Thanks to a geographically well-distributed vineyard, Suduiraut combines the power of Haut-Sauternais wines with the prestigious fruitiness found in the wines of the Preignac and Barsac plateaus. The result is a well-rounded wine that ages very slowly and, in great vintages, borders on genius. The most recent vintages are of a very high standard.

The 2022 Château Suduiraut reveals notes of candied orange, caramelized citrus, flowers, spices, and buttery notes. A decadent Suduiraut, with vibrant freshness, perfect balance, and a magnificent finish. It is a brilliant and opulent Sauternes that is virtually impossible to resist and should continue to evolve for decades if stored properly. 2025–2055

As you inhale the aroma of this wine, you’re reminded that Axa owns an estate in Tokaji! So the inspiration is all the more enhanced! To that, we add the classic earthy notes of radishes and horseradish, hints of toasted almonds, followed by notes of raspberries and peaches, complemented by bitter oranges, apples, and rhubarb… It’s enough to open a specialty fruit and vegetable store! On the palate, the wine shines with density, concentration, and freshness. The sweetness is nicely balanced by the acidic structure as well as a subtle bitterness that stretches the finish beyond our imagination—beyond our ability to fully grasp the immense Suduiraut that is taking shape! It may be somewhat atypical, though when it comes to great wines, Suduiraut’s consistency is well established. 2030–2100
