"Formerly known as Blanc Sec de Suduiraut, this Gem is a real pleasure to drink!

"The dry white "Lions de Suduiraut" 2023 is fantastic. Bright and vibrant, it offers notes of ripe pear, ginger, white flowers and chamomile. The 2023 seems to me a little richer and creamier than some previous vintages, but that's no bad thing for a wine that's designed to be bought and consumed in a fairly short space of time. A real treat" (Vinous 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)

About the domain :

The estate now produces the great wines that its terroir allows, with perfect regularity and a complex but perfectly thought-out range of grand and second wines and two remarkable dry wines. It's hard to choose between the slightly more modern and exuberant Lion and the more classic Castelnau among the sweet second wines, as both are made without concession, with a lovely roasting of the grapes. In dry form, S has a little more density than the simple sec. Only Yquem can do a little better, especially when it comes to ageing.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

With aromas of lime blossom, orange peel and iodine, the nose hints at a fresh, linear palate. A pure pleasure, perfect for your summer parties or to be served at an upscale picnic with the Suduiraut name. The majority of Sémillon lends opulence to the mid-palate. I like the balance between acidity and alcohol. Barrel ageing will give it more definition and fullness, enabling it to score higher. 2024-2028

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the domain :

This vast estate was bought by AXA Millésimes in 1992. Thanks to a geographically well-distributed vineyard, Suduiraut combines the power of Haut-Sauternais wines with the prestigious fruitiness found in the crus of the Preignac and Barsac plateaus. The result is a full-bodied nectar that ages very slowly, but which, in great years, approaches genius. Recent vintages have reached a very high level.
