Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)

About the domain :

The estate now produces the great wines that its terroir allows, with perfect regularity and a complex but perfectly thought-out range of grand and second wines and two remarkable dry wines. It's hard to choose between the slightly more modern and exuberant Lion and the more classic Castelnau among the sweet second wines, as both are made without concession, with a lovely roasting of the grapes. In dry form, S has a little more density than the simple sec. Only Yquem can do a little better, especially when it comes to ageing.

About the wine:

I love dry whites from the Sauternes region, and this one is a good example - and shows why Semillon is such an interesting grape to work with to create dry whites with personality. A little less round on the palate than others in the region, but still with a slate texture and minerality showing how the soils here can work for dry whites, and an excellent expression of citrus and juicy white pear. 2021-2026

Wine rated ( 2021 guide) 89-91/100 (Great wine)

About the wine:

It kicks off with vibrant notions of freshly squeezed lime, lemon meringue pie and Granny Smith apples, as well as hints of dill seed and white pepper. The medium-bodied palate offers impressive satin texture and a racy line through citrus and apple flavors, finishing with endless length. 2023-2029

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

This pretty bench has substance. Clean, with good sapidity, it deserves 2 or 3 years in bottle.

About the domain :

This vast estate was bought by AXA Millésimes in 1992. Thanks to a geographically well-distributed vineyard, Suduiraut combines the power of Haut-Sauternais wines with the prestigious fruitiness found in the crus of the Preignac and Barsac plateaus. The result is a full-bodied nectar that ages very slowly, but which, in great years, approaches genius. Recent vintages have reached a very high level.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 90-92/100

About the wine:

Beautiful minerality and maritime freshness in the bouquet of dry Suduiraut. Evocative of the sea, citrus fruit and spices. Tight, fruity character on the palate. Precise, lively and fresh on the finish. A racy wine with a juicy, persistent finish. 2022-2028
