"A powerful and aromatic Marsannay, the perfect accompaniment to a beautiful cheese platter..."

"Bright floral aromas of cherries, blood oranges, violets, and blueberries. The palate is lively and juicy, with fine tannins and a round texture supported by piercing acidity. Great liveliness and tension, with a touch of minerality. Drink now or hold." (James Suckling 2025).

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

3-star rating (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Philippe Huguenot is a pragmatist. Certified organic since 2013, he initiated this process to enable his vines to regain the hardiness he felt they had lost. Mechanical harvesting has also been abandoned. This estate is moving forward and its wines are becoming increasingly elegant with a pleasant fruitiness that appeals from a young age. The improvement in quality has been spectacular over the last few vintages. A man of rare kindness with wines that reflect his personality, he enjoys welcoming customers to his cellar at a time when many others have closed their doors due to commercial success. The quality here is particularly consistent and constant.

About the estate:

Since 1790, ten generations have succeeded one another on this 21-hectare estate, renowned for its Marsannay, Gevrey, and Fixin wines. Philippe Huguenot took over from his father Jean-Louis in 1996 and began converting the vineyard to organic farming (certified in 2013).

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

Heir to ten generations of winemakers based in Marsannay, Jean-Louis Huguenot, who passed away in 2019, produced technically flawless wines for many years. More discreet, his son Philippe and his wife Valérie have succeeded in giving the wines more personality, without compromising their fundamental qualities. The entire range comprises precise, solid wines, which have regained organic certification since 2019, but overly pronounced aging diminishes the nuances of the terroir's expression with dry finishes. We hope that Philippe Huguenot, now fully in charge, will develop this style further. Major renovation work on the winery and buildings is currently underway.
