Château Pouilly - Cuvée 1551 2019
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"A great vintage that echoes the Favorite in the 2016 vintage. A Pouilly-Fuissé unanimously appreciated for its powerful bouquet of white fruits (peach and pear), spices, and citrus fruits, as well as for its equally intense and complex palate, remarkable for its generosity, volume, balance, depth, and length. A wine with a very assertive character and impressive depth, celebrating the château's first harvest nearly five centuries ago!" (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

About the estate:
Perched on Mount Pouilly, on the edge of the hamlet, this château has stood proudly since 1551 amid its 7 hectares of vineyards. At its helm since 1981, Ms. Canal du Comet aims to restore the prestige of this estate, which played a leading role in the World's Fairs between 1862 and 1912. Traditions are respected here, from the vine to the bottle (12 months of vinification, blending before bottling, long aging in bottles).

Note and opinion by Mr. PHILIP J. Published on 06/17/2025
After purchasing the 2016 vintage previously, and taking into account the comments (2 stars and a favorite) in the 2022 Hachette Guide, I bought six bottles of the 2019 vintage. The 2016 had made a good impression (while remaining relatively mild/unexuberant for a Pouilly-Fuissé). The 2019 confirmed and pushed this feeling to a level below expectations (especially in view of the Hachette comments). It is a nice, well-balanced Chardonnay, with ripe fruit and decent acidity, but overall I found this wine unimpressive and rather disappointing for the price. Did the Hachette guide jury really taste the same wine? I have my doubts...

Beautiful, appealing golden color. Complex nose, very Chardonnay. Smooth and mellow on the palate with good length.
