About wine:
After heavy losses due to frost and then hail, Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Varambon 2021 is in very short supply: barely 14 hectoliters per hectare, to be precise. The resulting wine is a success in this difficult year, presenting aromas of white flowers, citrus oil, and pear, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny, and precise palate, ending with a slightly evanescent finish.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100
Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About wine:
Clos Varambon expresses itself with sobriety, finesse, and complexity of flavors, very floral, with a great softness of flesh: an excellent nourishing white wine, fresh and consistent.
About the estate:
Claire and Fabio Gazeau-Montrasi took over this historic family estate in 1995. Certified organic since 2005, it consists mainly of Chardonnay vines in Fuissé and a plot in Saint-Amour. All the estate's white wines undergo long aging, nearly two years, which naturally enriches them and gives them greater complexity. The exposure and altitude have prevented the Pouilly-Fuissé wines from being classified as premiers crus, but this will not matter to the discerning wine lover. The quality and consistency of the latest wines presented this year have earned the estate a second star.
The wines: the Saint-Amour has a rich, flavorful body and is a sensual, crisp wine with beautiful fresh fruit intensity. The Clos Varambon offers finesse and aromatic complexity: with its great intensity and lingering finish, this ripe, fresh, and caressing wine ticks all the boxes. Pierrefolle is naturally expressive, with a texture sharpened by its granite terroir. This sapid and vibrant wine offers radiant flavors and a very subtle finish. Les Birbettes is even more refined, with magnificent breadth, a long finish and a penetrating intensity on the palate, all expressed with great naturalness.

About wine:
Due to limited quantities, the Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Varambon 2021, which comes from vines around 40 years old in the titular vineyard, is aged exclusively in previously used barrels. The nose is minty, well defined by scents of apple blossom and blood orange. The palate is well balanced, with a tangy attack, hints of marmalade, lively acidity, and a punchy, spicy finish. This wine is thoroughly enjoyable.
