This wine comes from the only plot located outside the Clos: situated 500 meters to the south, facing due east, and sheltered from the north wind—factors that make it a warmer site with a climate shaped by geological formations dating back to before the Jurassic period. Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

With its natural expression, Pierrefolle offers a character shaped by its granite terroir. This vibrant, flavorful wine boasts radiant flavors and a very subtle finish.

About the estate:

Claire and Fabio Gazeau-Montrasi took over this historic family estate in 1995. Certified organic since 2005, it consists mainly of Chardonnay vines in Fuissé and a plot in Saint-Amour. All of the estate’s white wines undergo extended aging—nearly two years—which naturally refines and enriches them, resulting in greater complexity. The exposure and altitude have prevented the Pouilly-Fuissé wines from being classified as Premier Cru, a fact that the discerning connoisseur will not mind. The quality and consistency of the latest wines presented this year have earned the estate its second star.
The wines: a rich, flavorful texture in the Saint-Amour, a sensual and crisp wine with beautiful intensity of fresh fruit. Finesse and aromatic complexity in the Clos Varambon: with its great intensity and lingering finish, this ripe, fresh, and caressing wine checks all the boxes. With a natural expression, Pierrefolle offers a character sharpened by its granite terroir. This savory and vibrant wine offers radiant flavors and a very subtle finish. An added touch of refinement in Les Birbettes, with its magnificent scope, which lingers long on the palate and unfolds with a penetrating intensity on the finish, in a grand natural expression.

About the wine:

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Pierrefolle is unique in that it comes from more granitic soils (similar to those in Beaujolais) and a slightly warmer microclimate. This results in a slightly more mineral-driven nose, quite "airy," with notes of citrus zest and linden blossom that emerge upon aeration. The palate is taut and fresh, with impressive concentration and heightened acidity that gives the finish a real "edge." Excellent.
