Wine rating (2025 guide) 94/100 Favorite

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

With its natural expression, Pierrefolle offers a sharp texture honed by its granite terroir. This sapid and vibrant wine offers radiant flavors and a very subtle finish.

About the estate:

Claire and Fabio Gazeau-Montrasi took over this historic family estate in 1995. Certified organic since 2005, it consists mainly of Chardonnay vines in Fuissé and a plot in Saint-Amour. All the estate's white wines undergo long aging, nearly two years, which naturally enriches them and gives them greater complexity. The exposure and altitude have prevented the Pouilly-Fuissé wines from being classified as premiers crus, but this will not matter to the discerning wine lover. The quality and consistency of the latest wines presented this year have earned the estate a second star.
The wines: the Saint-Amour has a rich, flavorful body and is a sensual, crisp wine with beautiful fresh fruit intensity. The Clos Varambon offers finesse and aromatic complexity: with its great intensity and lingering finish, this ripe, fresh, and caressing wine ticks all the boxes. Pierrefolle is naturally expressive, with a texture sharpened by its granite terroir. This sapid and vibrant wine offers radiant flavors and a very subtle finish. Les Birbettes is even more refined, with magnificent breadth, a long finish and a penetrating intensity on the palate, all expressed with great naturalness.

About wine:

The Pouilly-Fuissé Pierrefolle 2022 is unique in that it comes from more granitic soils (as in Beaujolais) and a slightly warmer microclimate. This results in a slightly more mineral, rather "airy" nose, with notes of citrus peel and lime blossom that reveal themselves when aerated. The palate is taut and fresh, with impressive concentration and increased acidity that gives the finish a real "edge." Excellent.
