Bettane & Desseauve

"Made from the 2006 and 2005 vintages, this blanc de blancs aged under cork has been lightly dosed, bordering on extra-brut. Noted in the last edition, it is highly acclaimed this year. Intense and complex on the nose, it blends notes of butter, brioche, honey, toast, and mandarin, before revealing a full-bodied, buttery palate, balanced by a delicate acidity that highlights its length.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2016)

Wine rated (2017 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

A Blanc de Blancs with lovely depth, featuring a full-bodied palate and just the right amount of dosage.

About the estate:

Located in Cramant, a premier terroir for great Chardonnays, this 22-hectare family estate is now run by Jean-Étienne and Jean-Emmanuel Bonnaire. Perfect as an aperitif, these champagnes are a sure bet in the region. The brothers also manage Champagnes Paul Clouet, a sister house affiliated with the family vineyard since 1992. Some of the cuvées are aged in oak, and older vintages can be disgorged upon request. This is a reliable producer that continues to evolve and refine its style.

Wine noted (guide 2016) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

Blended from the 2006 and 2005 vintages, this blanc de blancs, aged under cork, has been lightly dosed, bordering on extra-brut. Noted in the last edition, it is highly acclaimed this year. Intense and complex on the nose, it blends notes of butter, brioche, honey, toast, and mandarin, before revealing a full-bodied, buttery palate, balanced by a delicate acidity that highlights its length.

About the estate:

Like many Champagne winegrowers, the great-grandfather of the current winemakers broke away from the wine merchants following the 1929 crisis and began bottling his own wine in 1932. Today, the estate covers 25 hectares, mainly in the Côte des Blancs. Since 2012, it has been run by Jean-Emmanuel and Jean-Étienne Bonnaire, sons of Jean-Louis, who passed away in 2015.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Very good)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Recommended)

About the wine:

The color is bright and luminous, with golden and silvery hues. The bubbles are fine and lively. On the nose, the wine reveals its freshness and liveliness through aromas of citrus, yuzu, kumquats, and spices. Rich yet crisp, this is a delicious and rather elegant champagne.

About the estate:

Located in the Côte des Blancs, the kingdom of Chardonnay, with vineyards acquired in Fossoy and Bergères-les-Vertus, this family estate—founded in 1932 and based in Cramant—is now run by the fourth generation, Jean-Etienne and Jean-Emmanuel Bonnaire. Their 22 hectares of vineyards, planted primarily with Chardonnay, produce grapes destined for aging in tanks and old barrels (the Ver Sacrum and Variance cuvées, aged under cork for over 6 years). All dosages have been reduced.
