Bettane & Desseauve

Note: Bettane & Desseauve 17/20
"A full-bodied wine, powerful yet balanced, lightly dosed, a highly successful blend, more full-bodied than the blanc de blancs. " (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France 2013). The haute couture cuvée from Bonnaire, a blend from the finest plots in Cramant. A young, fresh and pure wine, with a measured dosage to allow the terroir of origin to express itself freely.

Wine rated (2013 guide) 17/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About wine:

A full-bodied wine, powerful yet balanced, lightly sweetened, a very successful blend, more full-bodied than the blanc de blancs.

About the estate:

Located in Cramant, a renowned terroir for great Chardonnays, this 22-hectare family estate is now run by Jean-Étienne and Jean-Emmanuel Bonnaire. These champagnes are perfect as aperitifs and are considered to be among the best in the industry. The brothers also manage Champagnes Paul Clouet, a sister company that has been part of the family vineyard since 1992. Some of the cuvées are aged in wood, and older vintages can be disgorged on request. This is a reliable address that is progressing and refining its style.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Like many Champagne winegrowers, the great-grandfather of the current winegrowers gained independence from the wine trade following the 1929 crisis and began producing wine in 1932. Today, the estate covers 25 hectares, mainly in the Côte des Blancs. Since 2012, it has been run by Jean-Emmanuel and Jean-Étienne Bonnaire, sons of Jean-Louis, who passed away in 2015.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Recommended)

About the estate:

On the Côte des Blancs, the kingdom of Chardonnay, with vineyards acquired in Fossoy and Bergères-les-Vertus, the family estate founded in 1932, located in Cramant, is now run by the fourth generation with Jean-Etienne and Jean-Emmanuel Bonnaire. Their 22 hectares of vines, mainly composed of Chardonnay, produce grapes destined for ageing in vats and old barrels (Ver Sacrum and Variance cuvées, aged under cork for more than 6 years). The dosages have all been reduced.

Prestige of what? Other vintages are just as interesting and less expensive.
