Rating: Bettane & Desseauve 17/20
“A full-bodied wine, powerful yet balanced, with low sugar content, a highly successful blend, and more full-bodied than the Blanc de Blancs. ” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2013). The haute couture cuvée from the Bonnaire estate, a blend of the finest Cramant plots. A young, fresh, and pure wine, with a measured dosage to allow the fullest expression of its terroir of origin.

Wine rated (2013 guide) 17/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

A full-bodied, powerful yet balanced wine with low sugar content; a very successful blend, fuller-bodied than the Blanc de Blancs.

About the estate:

Located in Cramant, a premier terroir for great Chardonnays, this 22-hectare family estate is now run by Jean-Étienne and Jean-Emmanuel Bonnaire. Perfect as an aperitif, these champagnes are a sure bet in the region. The brothers also manage Champagnes Paul Clouet, a sister house affiliated with the family vineyard since 1992. Some of the cuvées are aged in oak, and older vintages can be disgorged upon request. This is a reliable producer that continues to evolve and refine its style.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Like many Champagne winegrowers, the great-grandfather of the current winemakers broke away from the wine merchants following the 1929 crisis and began bottling his own wine in 1932. Today, the estate covers 25 hectares, mainly in the Côte des Blancs. Since 2012, it has been run by Jean-Emmanuel and Jean-Étienne Bonnaire, sons of Jean-Louis, who passed away in 2015.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Recommended)

About the estate:

Located in the Côte des Blancs, the kingdom of Chardonnay, with vineyards acquired in Fossoy and Bergères-les-Vertus, this family estate—founded in 1932 and based in Cramant—is now run by the fourth generation, Jean-Etienne and Jean-Emmanuel Bonnaire. Their 22 hectares of vineyards, planted primarily with Chardonnay, produce grapes destined for aging in tanks and old barrels (the Ver Sacrum and Variance cuvées, aged under cork for over 6 years). All dosages have been reduced.

What's so special about it? There are other vintages that are just as good and cheaper.
