Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This brand from the Côte des Bar cooperative winery (which charmingly describes itself as a “winemakers’ house”) in the Aube department has made significant progress and effectively demonstrates the undeniable potential of this “southern” terroir within the Champagne wine region. Apart from the premier cuvée, which falls short of the rest of the range, the champagnes possess a distinct personality, as evidenced, for example, by the surprising Pinot Blanc.

Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

This cooperative in the Aube department, founded in 1956, now has 130 members who cultivate 315 hectares spread across ten villages in the Arce Valley, near Bar-sur-Seine. Pinot Noir, the premier grape variety of the Côte des Bar, makes up the majority of the local vineyards.

About the estate:

The cooperative, founded in 1956, now includes no fewer than 130 winegrowers and encompasses a total of 315 hectares of vineyards. Overlooking the Arce Valley, in the heart of the Côte des Bar, this “winegrowers’ house” is housed in a large, charming 19th-century building. In a region where Pinot Noir reigns supreme, the landscape—with its alternating vineyards and forests—promotes biodiversity and enables an environmentally responsible approach. The lineup has been expanded with two new certified organic vintages (“Les Authentiques”), and visitors can explore a new tour and tasting area in the winery’s cellars, as well as an exhibition titled “Les Effervescentes.” Of particular note is a vintage Pinot Blanc, a specialty of the winery.

About the wine:

A timeless classic: brioche with lemon cream [...] A refreshing lemon sorbet in the middle, which becomes increasingly generous toward the end.
