Champagne De Sousa

The De Sousa Champagne House, founded in the late 19th century, is located in Avize and is run by Michelle and Erick De Sousa. The estate comprises 11 hectares of vineyards spread across 42 plots situated on the chalky soil typical of the Champagne region. The De Sousa Champagne vineyard, with an average vine age of 45 years,has been certified organic since 2010.

The vineyards of the De Sousa Champagne are harvested entirely by hand, as late as possible to achieve optimal ripeness and grapes that are very rich in aromas. By crafting Champagne according to the traditional methods taught to him by his father, Erick De Sousa has opted for malolactic fermentation to round out its wines and, as in the past, cools the wine to -4°C to enhance the clarity of its Champagne. The family’s expertise in De Sousa Champagne is also used in the blending of aged wines to balance the cuvées and ensure consistent quality.
