Champagne De Sousa

The De Sousa Champagne House, founded in the late 19th century, is located in Avize and is run by Michelle and Erick De Sousa. The estate comprises 11 hectares of vineyards spread across 42 plots situated on the chalky soil typical of the Champagne region. The De Sousa Champagne vineyards, with an average age of 45 years,have been certified organic since 2010.

The vineyards of the De Sousa Champagne are harvested entirely by hand, as late as possible to ensure optimal ripeness and grapes that are rich in aroma. By crafting Champagne according to the traditional methods taught to him by his father, Erick De Sousa has opted for malolactic fermentation to round out its wines and, as in the past, subjects them to a cold treatment at -4°C to enhance the clarity of its Champagne. The family’s expertise in De Sousa Champagne is also used in blending older wines intended for aging to balance the blends and ensure consistent quality.
